Would like more detail as to the universe. You say pirates, so is this a Golden Age Of Piracy situation? Is there magic? Nonhuman races? What tech level?

The year is 2013, And this, is Westbrook Island, a little piece of hell. Modern day Pirates run slave and drug trades, Mercenaries are constantly fighting with one another, If that ain't bad enough, there's a bunch of cannibals, wild animals.
