I notice that a lot of characters have the Fujiya girl emotion on their face.

I feel like there's a trope for that...maybe.

But this guy has that actual head shape and complexion with no hair or nose.

I don't think she counts, since Steven never seems to be interested in her so far. She's probably like the Moe Sizlack of this show.

I just caught up with this show recently and I just love it so much. I haven't really noticed any of the design changes, though. And I actually think Lars is a pretty cool character. He probably just doesn't like the Gems because of all the damage they cause (Amethyst breaking the dumpster, Steven causing the Nightmare Fuel that is Frybo). I mean, he's still kind of a jerk, but a cool jerk.

About Lars, we don't really know enough about him yet to judge. Sure he sounds like a jerk, but he hasn't done anything too bad- heck Steven has caused more (unintentional)damage than him! While I suspect he will be a more direct antagonist someday, personally I'd prefer if he subverted the usual tropes by being occasionally nice, or at least just there.

He is pretty much just there. He's a minor character. He probably won't affect the plot in any way.

I noticed the differences between the pilot and the rest, but not the differences between other episodes.

God, being able to notice these things blow, it just means other people think you're crazy or pretentious.

But to me, it's just so obvious when there's a shift in animation, art quality, or character model consistency and I'm not even an animation student.

No worries, the animation is kind of all over the place.

Why would anyone think you're pretentious? Off-model just happens in most animation because art teams/studios are usually rotated in episode production. You were just pointing it out.

Yeah, I didn't really think it was pretentious, I was just angered a little by the general "ugh, they're not hot anymore" mentality. Probably because I liked the redesigns more than the originals. Because I saw the Pilot later than most of the episodes.

I actually like the Gems the way they are now... End of story.

Holy shit! Lars looks like a misplaced 80's black guy. glad they changed him. Can't say for everything else.

Lars...looked slightly less goofy in the pilot. :-/

I ain't lion. His head is a perfect cube now, and he's missing the top part of his ears. All he has are the lobes.

And Garnet has a cubic Afro. Just chalk it up to Artistic License.
