I literally just realized a Call-Back to the original film.

Toecutter threatens Jessie by pretty much telling her "You don't have a sense of humor but you have a pretty face...but if you were to lose the face."

Then Immortan Joe, the guy who played the Toecutter, practically has his face ripped off by Furiosa

Wait Immortan Joe and Toecutter were played by the same dude? I never noticed that.

I need to rewatch the old ones.

Oh really when?

[up] Yeah, it's the same guy. It's kind of heartwarming that George Miller brought back an obscure actor like Hugh Keays-Byrne for such a big role in the movie.

I keep on getting excited about this film because everything I heard about it sounds awesome, but I probably won't go see it, because I tend to be freaked out by detective shows because they have dead bodies, and they occasionally show someone being stabbed/shot/etc.

There's really not a whole ton of gore factor. Maybe really intense at the beginning with a guy being tattooed (thus, blood) but on the whole its mostly action.

Hi all! I had a painful idea.

So Max at the beginning of this film is absolutely bonkers right? Been alone for way too long, almost forgotten how to talk, basically an animal. He also suffers from PTSD, people screaming insults and Max's failed promises at him because he couldn't save them, the big one being the little girl with curly hair.

This little girl doesn't appear in any of the other movies, but when I watched Fury Road a couple days after seeing the original Mad Max for the very first time, her hair reminded me of his wife's hair. What if that was intentional? What if the first movie did happened, but Max has been so alone and so haunted for so long his memories got swirled together? What if Max blended his wife and his (male, toddler) child together into one staring, accusing form?

What if he can't remember them as separate at all anymore?

Despite my screen-name, ranting to you about One Piece is not my top priority.

Well, there's a shot of the child being chased down by monster trucks so it may be some event that we haven't seen yet. Also, supposedly, the sequels are going to be prequels which might end up explaining those scenes.

Actually, Miller said that a continuity doesn't really exist between his films (other than the original Mad Max being the de-facto beginning), and he doesn't want any clear connection between them, either, to avoid Hollywood sequelitis.

I really think Furiosa's story ends here for the most part. After the original film it's been about Max being the badass drifter to different groups of people, I think it needs to stay that way.

Furiosa may get a Side Story film, kind of like what those what I consider to be throwaway films in the new Star Wars saga that aren't part of the main trilogy, only much better directed, shot and scripted.

That's of course if Charlize Theron wants to do another film - she didn't really get on well at all with Tom Hardy in making Fury Road.

Having a prequel that tells its own self contained story doesn't entirely create continuity. Assuming that they make a prequel explaining the small girl and the monster trucks (so far the only loose thread for a prequel in Fury Road), the only continuity is that it would take place before Fury Road at some point, but after the first film. Which isn't very much to go on.

Not to mention that continuity is screwed up in a billion other ways too.

I'm not sure I'd want a Furiosa side prequel. I love her character, but I feel I've seen her story as far as Fury Road explained. I don't really need nor feel the desire to see her working for Joe and being awful and coming to her Heel Face Turn. We know where that goes. It feels like... telling us something we already know about. I don't think it would add anything new besides have more screentime for Furiosa.

Remember that they are using comics to tell backstory for some of the characters. You don't need the comics to get the movie but it's nice to have something to learn more about the characters.

I found a very, very, very rare thing just now - a JF Sargent article in Cracked that didn't make me want to head butt my screen. Enjoy:

There is plenty of material in the finale already to make an original movie, whether it is about Max or about Furiosa. Not sure about both at once. I guess George Miller is smart enough to avoid any Romantic Plot Tumor, but Max is one lone wolf I enjoy, strangely. I would prefer him to be a decent human being wherever he goes, instead of sticking in the Citadel and play the Dead Little Sister trope painfully straight.

I don't think Furiosa needs a sidekick anyway.

I believe Miller has said that there are two sequels in the works: Mad Max: The Wasteland (about Max) and Mad Max: Furiosa (about Furiosa).

The Wasteland is the confirmed title of the next one but Furiosa was the working title of one of the planned movies. The question is if Wasteland is that one or if Furiosa is a fourth movie.

Honestly, if they want to give her an own movie, I think it would be better to call it "Furiosa: random subtitle", to distinguish it clearly from the Mad Max movies.

[up]You either have watched Mad Max and know who Furiosa is or you haven't and then you will be most likely not very interested in another Mad Max movie either.

[up]Agreed. Plus once the first trailer comes out for a hypothetical Furiosa standalone movie, it's going to be made plainly obvious to even the most casual moviegoer that it's part of the Mad Max franchise.

[up][up]Mad Max is a popular brand. It is not a household name such as Star Wars, but it is still something anyone might recognize, regardless of having watched any of the movies.

Not everyone watch everything they might find interesting in the theaters. Many of such people might have missed Fury Road for one reason or another and never bothered looking for a DVD. Regardless, if they knew there was another movie out there, they would still consider watching if they happen to be free. Just because someone happens to not have watched Fury Road, it doesn't mean they won't ever be interested in another Mad Max movie.

Also, let's be honest, Furiosa is freaking awesome, but her name is not nearly as catchy as Mad Max. I am certain many people watched the movie and then simply forgot what the name of the characters.

[up]Will it? It might be obvious it is a post apocalypse movie, but not necessarily it is Mad Max. Also, plenty people don't watch trailers. If they don't recognizer a name in a poster, they might simply not pay attention.

To give an example of how much the name means, at E3 when the game was revealed people thought it was a new Fallout spinoff until the title showed up on screen.
