Isn't that part of the trope as well? For instance, it says movie theatre seats also counts, and those you can usually specify where you want to sit when you buy the tickets.
And you could include the stinger for the strip as a caption. "Actually, it's just easier if I don't have to draw anyone sitting behind them."

While I normally like El Goonish Shive images, this one has nothing to do with the trope. It's about when students are randomly arranged in plot-convenient seats, not when students choose to sit somewhere where they won't have to pay attention during an assembly.
