@DRECQ: It's not just her younger looking body; her actions and personality seem a lot younger here.
These are the words that shall come from my mouth. I shall be known for speaking them.So if the only Gi TS thing you've seen was the first movie....would this make any sense?
I just finished watching Border 1: Ghost Pain, and all I have to say is....
...Good show. Bravo. Excelsior. Er-hem. That's good, I mean.
Same as usual.... Wing it.No. This series isn't related to the first movie. It's best to just watch this for what it is.
Hmmm.. I'm glad that this review was written by a GITS fan, but he summed up everything that most of us had feared when the series was announced: The character designs, the lead animator being the director, the younger character designs, the replacement of the original cast.
I'm not being dejected by this review... I rarely ever am by any kind of review. I'll still wait for the dub to be released (which the reviewer hopes Funimation also brings back the SAC cast) and judge it for what it is for myself.
If the Japanese dub is going for a younger feel, why wouldn't the dub?
This Isnt SAC, it's not gonna feel the same as it.
These are the words that shall come from my mouth. I shall be known for speaking them.Batou has almost the EXACT SAME BODY, yet was given a different voice. There's no reason for them to change his voice. The article itself says that Maaya Sakamoto was basically playing Atsuko Tanaka as Motoko... Why not just ask Atsuko to voice her if you're going to hire an actress to sound like the previous actress?
And it's not just Stand Alone Complex. William Mc Knight and Richard Epcar have been Aramaki and Batou since the very beginning with the original movie. They're even those characters in the 1997 Playstation game!
Chapter 4 is out. And some shit happens behind the scenes.
We know why Batou's Ranger unit was decimated in their UN peacekeeping op when it went south. Unit 501 is involved in keeping the civil war around.
Updated to include new tropes to reflect the recent chapter that came out recently.
Which subs are good for Border 1?
I know that the R2 Blu-Rays will have official English subtitles.

Yeah but he wants to watch the sub now, over the internet.. possibly through unscrupulous means.
Oh right...
Well I doubt I can say it straight, but I know where to look though.
It's up on my usual streaming site of choice. I have to get around to watching it, though.
Going to get it too so's I can watch it later.
Already watched it. Quite awesome still despite the character design differences and all.
Pre-ordering the Subtitle Blu-ray for $42 is pretty damn good for a limited edition, but if this is all that we're getting, then I don't think it's worth it. What is that red card? A certificate of authenticity? I thought more physical goodies were supposed to come with it?
I think I can wait until the dub.

Chapter 5's out and it showed the aftermath of what happened of the PKO camp.
And Batou's GAR face when he took on a Hind-D gunship. Almost reminds me of Snake's time from Outer Heaven to Shadow Moses.
So, when's the next release of Arise coming out?
Same as usual.... Wing it.November this year.
The new chapter of the manga's out. And it shows Noroshi's descent to darkness.
Seems the Kuzan foreign minister was able to muster support to take down the junta despite being supported by Unit 501. This made Batou leave active duty from the Rangers.
Hi guys. New fan of GITS here, saw the 1995 film and was instantly hooked. Binged through all the movies and the anime, including Arise. Thought it lacked the depth of the 1995 film, Innocence, and Solid State Society, but it seemed to simply be a retelling of Section 9's history, so I thought it was okay.
I'm mostly here because I have a question nagging at me after seeing Solid State Society though. Didn't mean to go off-topic and didn't want to resurrect a dead thread. Anyway:
Why did the Puppeteer decide to hack the Major's cyberbrain? Punishment for intervening? To bury the truth about the abduction system? What do he/they/it gain from doing that?

So, i just watched Ghost Pain. Can anyone explain... well... everything?
Mostly i want to know what exactly the 501st was doing to The Major and what the virus was doing. The virus had her forget what happened to Lt. Col. Mamuro, and was forcing her to embezzle funds from his accounts to draw suspicion to her and away from the Vice Minister and Captain Kanzaki? Now, why were her CO and that guy with the blue cable-dreads setting her up for the fall, but then held back at the last moment?
The Firestarter virus made Motoko have fake memories. The reason why they held back is that 501 saw potential in her I guess. Now if you want to take Kurutsu's work into account, a foreign country was responsible for it. It does tie in a way to the next OVA.
Already watched the 2nd OVA. Quite good so far.

1st OVA's out in Japan already, so it's the 2nd one by 5 months.
