[up] It's you go by Git S:SAC 2ng Gig, (or even the 1st Gig opening) Motoko's been a full body cyborg since before she hit puberty which would have made it a very... different experience compared to someone who has a mostly organic body.

And that includes vocal changes.

I don't think this is set in SAC continuity, though, so that may not be 100% true for these OV As.

[up][up] I am well aware of Kusanagi's Labyrinth and her backstory. I kinda follow GITS as a religion. :p

If anything, that only further supports my point that two years isn't going to change her voice any when she's already been in her adult body since at least 2020.

[up] And no, this is not in any of the already established continuities. It would have Stand Alone Complex in the name and Kenji Kamiyama's involvement if it was, and this is an Adaptation Expansion of events not even covered by the first chapter of the manga, when Section 9 proved themselves worthy of existing when Aramaki sent them on a mission to prove to the other government officials that they are needed. Absolutely NOTHING is mentioned of how all the members ended up being recruited in the first place.

[up]I dunno though; maybe the date of her cyberization's been pushed back to say 2020 or so, so she might be in her mid 20s as opposed to her 30s or 40s, as she was in SAC.

Even by 2027, she'd still be at least 29. Regardless, her voice would have been in it's permanent adult form for years already now.

The only way they can justify it in this continuity is if she really is still a teenager, and I doubt they'd actually reveal just how old she is for it.

Four-episode OVA plus Ghost in the Shell plus Production I.G. tells me that this will have high production values. Which is what I've come to expect from them for their (in my mind) flagship franchise.

Anticipation, it mounts.

[up][up]Not necessarily; I think she was just a (young) Teenager when she had the accident in SAC, which then would've put her cyberization at (what is now) an improbably early date like 2014 or 15. If she got her cyber body in 2020 and was, say, 14 or 15, she's be like 22 or 23 in 2028.

[up] She was 6 years old when the plane crash happened, and already in her adult body that she was in for all of SAC by 2020. Her parents died in the crash and she lost her memory. There was no documented evidence to even support what her original name was.

The trailer in this one starts by her throwing a photograph on the bed that shows a man and woman showing a young Motoko some form of attention, suggesting that her parents may have died later on in her life, but at any rate it is not connected to SAC, so the plane crash event never happened here.

Or it can also be her relatives/guardians.

[up] Yes, Yes it can. One of them also looked like a scientist, which suggested to me was the man who put her in a prosthetic body in the first place. At any rate, it seems implied that she had parent-like figures at one point in her post-prosthetic life.

ahh, I stand corrected, it is the "Rojikoma". Looks like a Tachikoma minus the pod, had visual features of the Fuchikomas from the manga, and has more rigid legs.

New trailer briefly showing it here.

Also the JGSDF uniforms appear to be based on those of the IJA.

Now that the seiyus are told publicly, makes me wonder if an English version will do the same and make some changes?

[up] Assuming there's going to be an English version (what with Bandai kaput and all), I sure hope no actors are changed. Has to be Mary Elizabeth Mc Glynn, Richard Epcar, Crispin Freeman, and everyone else from Stand Alone Complex. Accept no substitutes!

I did not realise there was a Microsoft Surface product placement deal in this.

It feels wrong somehow (though I'm sure it fits the show's aesthetic, plus it's the future so they can do whatever the hell they want with the designs).

I think SAC already spoiled us with regards to how Cyberspace looks. The Surface aesthetic being relatively minimalist may turn a lot of people off.

Perhaps, but I'm actually expecting a less... cluttered... Cyberspace from Arise, as it's meant to be a (theoretically) younger team.

I guess the main thing is whether they are forced to adapt the rather (IMO) garish Metro color scheme instead of having everything be blue(-ish).

Since they're keeping with the future and technological aesthetic that the original manga had, I'd imagine cyberspace would look to be the same as well.

I don't know about Mary Elizabeth being the Arise Motoko. I have a feeling that casting a younger VA would work. Although the others like Richard Epcar is fine.

I watched Standalone Complex in English recently, and Aramaki speaking English just doesn't sound right.

Really? Personally, I thought William Knight did a really good job as Aramaki. He has that kind of cool-old-guy-ish tone which works well with the character.
