The Universe Project

The most hopelessly naive and idealistic videogame to be ever started *

.

As a commercial product its so hopelessly impossible. As a project it might have some success....after decades of development. This is like trying to make a Sword Art Online, Dot Hack or Accel World using modern tools. Its ridiculous.

From what I read on the FAQ, These developers don't know shit about players abilities to break games. It will take years to discover skills? Unless they gate it through timed learning periods HAH. And don't get me started on their opinions of griefing.

I think this game is rather overambitious.

Sounds interesting. Can't wait to see it underperform massively.

We give bigger developers so much flak for not pushing the available tech enough, so these guys at least deserve some kudos for aiming beyond the limits of current systems.

...genre defying?

isnt it just a 4x game?

if every character is a player (implying there are no npcs), how could villages be started that are actually above the population of 1. if its just the players, and every players starts out on a different world, then how can a village be populated prior to space travel, and what is the point of being in an empty world all alone...logically shouldnt everyone start in the same place?

and if everyone starts of a different planet, does that mean each world is vastly different? or that all first planets work like earth? if theres no actual difference between planets besides looks, whats the point of playing on different planets except untill overpopulation of the starting planet?

why on earth would we want to travel the world via the length of time it would take in real life? that implies everything done takes the real life amount of time. some projects irl take years to get started let alone finish right? doesnt that mean space travel would probably outlive the players? unless they intend to take into account certain realities, while ignoring others entirely...which would be jarring...

also, why would people play a game in realtime when nothing can be accomplished in any period of time alone, because apparantly nothing is sped up for ease of gameplay?

this concept...is kinda baffling, imo. also unclear and seemingly full of hyperbole...

If they pull it off, it will be GLORIOUS! But really as of now it sounds WAY too optimisitc and too ambitious...

I won't put any hope into it for now...

It sounds an awful lot like Second Life, only even more boring and open-ended. Hell I'd rather choose EVE Online over this concept: they've already got a lot of what this game promises economy and social-wise, and space combat too (at least for those who can afford the repair bills!)
