Guess I done with The Witcher for real now. Kind of sad it's over, though I liked the ending.

Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult.

[up] Yeah I'm doing on and off NG+

As for that tomb raider, the last you see is the zip-line before the lab so it's an actual homage to the new TR reboot. Beyond that, no, don't see any sign of them that I could find.

And the "special" weapons in the game do suffer over loot drops. Weirdly, I quite liked the way W1 did things, limiting your swords and instead just reforging them a little. And when you got a special sword it was SPECIAL.

Now just gotta wait for Gwent and Cyberpunk 2077

I got this game about two weeks ago, but I keep getting distracted by other things. I've finished basically everything but Skellige and whatever comes after. Other than the annoyances about how my bleeding-edge computer can't play any CD Projekt Red games at reasonable settings, it's absolutely blowing me out of the water.

The reason I'm popping in is because I keep seeing ads for the Blood and Wine DLC as "Geralt's last adventure." I just wanted to say that I'm hoping at the end of the game Ciri becomes a witcher, and then later games you play exclusively as her instead of Geralt.

That's about it from me for now. I'll probably be back in a few weeks when I finally finish this thing.

It depends on what decisions you make during the last portion of the game, but I think CDPR is done with Witcher games for a lot of the foreseeable future. Right now they're working on Cyberpunk 2077.

I just started this game for the first time.

Now I tried W2 before, and I thought it was clumsy, boring, and frankly not something I'd be willing to play. But W3 has managed to hook me, although the combat still feels sloppy and unpolished which was my biggest gripe with 2. I haven't gotten very far yet, barely got to the camp with the soldiers towards the start. It feels like it takes forever to level up though since killing enemies doesn't give you experience.

Most of your XP comes from doing quests and contracts so you can't grind the usual way.

Finished! Witcher Ciri ending, with Yennefer. Awesome all around. Just an absolutely perfect game. I do wish Ciri had actually undergone the mutations, though. I guess she doesn't need them for most things, but she doesn't have slowed aging or immunity to disease.

Though I am annoyed at a few things about the world in general. I really think such a high level of magic would have changed it more. Sorceresses can make portals at the drop of a hat—did no king ever ask his advisor to link all his major cities in a portal network?

So, apparently CDPR is making a Game of the Year edition. No idea of when they'll release it though.

So have it well-guarded in the center of town, far away from the palace or mayor's house.

After doing the griffin fight...ugh this game's combat, frankly, is kind of bad, it's actually offputting me from playing more.

Like when does the combat get better? I want to play this game but I'm finding that the combat is becoming a drag, It's clumsy, controls poorly, the hits feel inconsistent...it feels like something from a pS2/xbox era B-level game. It's actually pretty jarring in how big the gap in quality is between the combat and the rest of the game.

Another thing is how ONLY DEVILS PLAY HERE BLAH BLAH BLAH which seems to happen so much that it sort of feels immersion breaking. I'm guessing this holds true for only the first area, but man oh man is it annoying. It makes the world feel a lot smaller than it initially seems.

[up] What is it about the combat specifically? AS you level up you will unlock more abilities and gears to make things easier and more fluid.

It is about dodging, countering and placement.

As for the first area - yeah it's supposed to be tiny and "more local" - Velen and Novigrad are far more sprawling with more diverse environmental chatter.

Have we played the same game where the trial of the grass was shown to be terribly painful and most Witchers resented the idea of using it at all even with good intents?

I mean, the slow aging and and disease immunity sounds great on paper, but then you get Witchers like Lambert that hates the very concept of the Witcher cast.

I didn't get those SO often. I mean, if you keep trudging the sides of the map, surely you're bound to hit the bounds more often.

All game worlds have boundaries. My problem with the ones in TW3 is that they often result in the game glitching you into positions that you can't get back to the map from.

I meant from an out of universe perspective. Yes, in-universe the Trial of Grasses is a dangerous and unpredictable process at the best of times, which the events of the game are not. It's normally only done on boys, ones younger than Ciri, and with about a dozen experts around. The witchers have every reason to believe that it's too dangerous to try.

However, out of universe is different. If Ciri was put through the Trial, she'd survive. There's really no question. She has only half a step less Plot Armor than Geralt does. There's a good argument to be made that they have the exact same amount of Plot Armor, since in any ending where she dies, he gets himself killed soon after. The specific reason I brought this up was because when they were talking about how Uma might be Ciri and they were planning to give him the first half of the Trial, I figured it would turn out to be Ciri, and something would go wrong where the only way to save her would be to finish the process and turn her into a full witcher.

All game worlds have boundaries. My problem with the ones in TW 3 is that they often result in the game glitching you into positions that you can't get back to the map from.

I didn't have that problem. If I kept walking where I wasn't supposed to go, it opened up the map and forced me to choose a place to fast travel to.

Considering everything that Ciri has going for her, I bet she could pass the Trial of the Grasses no problem, but she may be too old now.

I'm a little disappointed in the lack of gwent stuff outside of the two tournaments. The wagers you can make are hardly worth the effort. A two minute game for 50 gold isn't much when it can be more then 10 grand for a grandmaster set of gear.

Is using "Julian Assange is a Hillary butt plug" an acceptable signature quote?

MAIN GAME ENDING SPOILERS: So I'm thinking I missed something. Ciri's plan was to stop the white frost. The wild hunts plan was to stop the white frost..why were we fighting again?

[up] True, but then there's that risk of sticking some stuff behind a mini game that some of the audience might not have taken to.

The whole side thing of getting the unique cards was rather fun though.

[up][up] IIRC the Wild Hunt doesn't want to stop the White Frost, they want to escape it by using Ciri's superior mastery of space-time.

Basically they would upgrade their raid-portals to freight-portals to move their population.

JerekLaz Since: Jun, 2014
#1048: Jul 25th 2016 at 3:22:17 AM

[up] Exactly and they need Ciri, to act as essentially a booster, to allow them to move their world en masse, either into the Witcher's world or elsewhere

They USE the white frost to travel anyway.

Yeah, the Wild Hunt causes the White Frost. The prophecy is now irrelevant since the Wild Hunt is gone.
