I have been playing Hexxit lately. The trees are awesome. The enemy infested forts led by a necromancer. Not so much.

1.5 is great. The new railcraft blocks and their variants are very pretty and Tinkers Construct has completely replaced all my other tools.

The server would lose a lot more than Redpower if we update to the new packs; Xycraft isn't availible for 1.5 (It should be for 1.6). Extra Biomes has been switched for Biomes of Plenty (though Extra Biomes is still being maintained) which means new worldgen. Railcraft has brand new worldgen. Gravi Suite is in the new Ultimate but not the current Direwolf (which is meant to be "play along with whatever Direwolf's playing on now", and since he's between seasons for a while he's designed the mod list around Forgecraft's).

I think if you want to not reset the server and keep most of the current mods, you'll have to roll your own pack (probably adding Tinker's Construct, Immibis Microblocks and Minefactory if people want them). However, I've heard from the Xycraft dev (probably in a livestream) that 1.4 Xycraft worlds won't be upgradable to 1.6 (though you'll be able to install it in an updated 1.5 world because he added Thaumcraft-style retro worldgen). The case for a server reset at some point is probably one of "when" and not "if".

I'd say we should make our own pack for 1.5 soon based around what we currently have. However, if people want to keep their stuff, we could use the power of NEI saving inventories to load everything into ME cells and then respawn them after switching maps.

How would that effect thaumanomicons?

Xycraft is skipping 1.5 entirely. If the tvtropes server were to update to 1.5 it would need a complete restart. Not just because of mods not updating, but because various item ids completely changing. I suppose you could combat these problems, but it would be a complete nightmare.

On a unrelated note, I think gregtech has finally gone too far. I loved gregtech in the ultimate/beta 1.5 pack. Sure it made certain things a whole lot grindier, but it also added a lot of complexity and forced the user to combine other mods to get an awesome result. One thing I loved about it was that when you got over the initial tech boundary it actually offered a lot of easier ways to make useful things out of useless byproducts you accumulated anyway.

But the new pack, that's a different story. Greg seems to have increased to grind tenfold without actually adding any of the crazy stuff I loved it for. Here's hoping he adds some crazy shit to make up for it. If not I will have to seriously consider playing a non-GT pack, something that, a few days ago I never would have considered.

Well I don't know exactly where my base is now. It uses to be in the mountain next to spawn. I realise that the old map is now a mystcraft age or something, but if you can find it the loot is all yours.

There's 2-3 full sized quarries full of resources there in diamond chests. Use it as you will. This extends to anyone. I won't be coming back until the server updates to 1.5. Tinkers construct is just that good.

Oh sweet, server's up again.

So basically at this point I think it might make sense to restart the map on a modified version of the 1.5 non-Gregtech packs. Redpower and XyCraft aren't updated yet, but with Immibis' Microblocks and his replacement for Redlogic, the Rednet Cables and PRC from MFR, various colored lights other mods add, and the Railcraft quarried and abyssal stone we can replace all of RP 2, and XyCraft never really added any non-decorative irreplaceable things. If we do decide to restart with 1.5.2 I can make up the new pack based on the stuff we currently have installed; maybe we could even get it into the launcher as a private pack.

The server kinda needs a restart at this point anyways, in my opinion. Lance and I are the only ones who go on it regularly and I think that would change if we updated and had a fresh slate. I guess if anyone wanted to carry their stuff over we could respawn the important things for them.

So what is on the custom server out of curiosity.

Currently we have the most recent Direwolf20 pack with Compact Solars, Dimensional Doors, Ars Magica, BiblioCraft, and Mutant Creatures added.

so I've lost my drive to expand pending this server reset, but when are we expecting it?

That probably depends on when saint next checks this thread. I can set up our custom pack in a couple of days once he says something.

Right so I'm trying to compile the 1.5.2 modpack. Anything specific anyone wants in it? When it's working I'll post it so you guys can try it out and look for issues.

Ars Magica, Dimensional Doors, Better Storage (preferably the Dev version as the last time I used it, there was a really bad glitch with Crates that made them revert the inventories. I got hit with it and got double everything, then got hit with it again and lost everything), and that's all I can think of right now.

Thaumic Tinkerer as well, but I think that's already included in several modpacks.

Don't add Immibis Microblocks; I've been told that it's really poor on servers. There's supposed to be a microblock replacement upcomming from the dev of Wireless Redstone and NEI and it should be added to the FTB packs.

I've been having a busy few days recently so I haven't made too much progress, but now that Unleashed and DW 20 packs are both out it should be done shortly.

We are indeed. Pack's almost done; I'm just testing out for ID issues. I based it around the Unleashed pack instead of the DW20 one, as the latter only has two mods the former doesn't. It should be either done tonight, if all goes well, or tomorrow after which I will post the download link.
