yeah, does the infusion altar grab essence straight from jars if present? That could save me a ton of headache.

Also the server is hiccuping. Something is rotten in the state of Denmark.

Is using "Julian Assange is a Hillary butt plug" an acceptable signature quote?

Yeah, altars will use essentia in jars. However while they can take different kinds of essentia they need from different sources, altars cannot take part of the required essence from a jar and the rest from a crucible.

Finally got my Thaumonomicon, let magic ensue.

My lair is not finished yet, but it has grown large enough to fit some installations, I'm currently working on farms, and in time I will have rooms dedicated to a magic furnace from TC, a room dedicated to magical stuff (most probably one of the largest room).

All in all, it's going smoothly so far, but I will need to go mining soon, because I need stuff to make stuff, and I want a lot of stuff.

Heads up, those stone brick AM towers with the walls? Those have basements with more stuff.

So any tips for making large-ish quantity of Nitor? I mean, other than burning through coal and torches. My production of charcoal isn't rolling yet.

Also, finally got two linking books to go from my mines to my lair. Wheeeeeeee, no more need for stairs.

Get alembics set up first so you don't trash the aura doing so? I have some silverwood gathered from distant places if you want that in trade for the basalt, and you're not terribly far from me.

Well if you could trade for silverwood saplings or actual alembic, that would suit me pretty darn fine.

I placed a purple marker on my place if you want an idea of where it's at, and it's in the New World too.

If by marker you mean waypoint, those are locally saved so other people can't see yours.

Also, I think I passed by your place earlier. It's the sea volcano near the alpine village I found.

Anyhow, my exploration trip across the western sea only yielded one silverwood sapling so I'm hoarding it for myself at the moment. I could be persuaded into making extra alembics but I don't know if I'll have time to do so very soon. Other server has priority for play time, and in a week and a day I'm leaving on a jet plane to spend a month as a student in Ireland. Won't be spending much time playing Minecraft. :D

Anyway, I'm thinking a trading post in the game would be easier than negotiating forum deals. Forestry and IC 2 both offer methods to set them up, though IC 2 Trade-O-Mats are a bit more straightforward. Install Trade-O-Mat, install chest or personal safe to hold stock, set price, wait. IC 2 offers a currency item but straight barter is also possible. To simplify things, we could use the gold standard...which is to say, iron, gold and diamond, with conversion ratio based on EE 3 minium stone values.

[up][up] Really? How come I can see waypoints I didn't place?

[up] Yeah, it's probably my place. Not much yet, but I'll make something out of that volcano in time. As for the trades, it's alright, I can manage.

[up] If you downloaded the files that saint posted, you'll have the waypoints he had when he posted that. Waypoints are saved in local files, so if you started with his file you'd see his waypoints.

I finally 'got' Applied Energistic. It will be a while before I can totally figure it out and transfer all of my stuff in there, but I need to figure out a way to only have the contents of one drive show up, without a sprawling series of chests and switches.

There's no way to have the content of only one drive show up at a time without using tons of dark ME cable, which causes issues in autocrafting as the refresh of the network removes all current crafting jobs. If you want to be able to see one thing at a time, use ME chests and when you want to inspect a specific storage cell just open whichever chest it's in.

I was thinking on doing an ME chest for each different set of materials, keeping ones such as basic materials (wood, general ingots such as iron, gold, copper, lead, coal and redstone) always on and more mod-specific items in their own drives. Looking at 16k drives for most of it, with 64k for the main materials, though I may just split them up for storage.

Things we need in an age:

Dense Ores Ars Magica worldgen Glowstone/crystal

I have absolutely no idea how to make a good age. Can someone else help?

Also, might try to set up a maze slime farmer to farm Charms of Keeping.

[up] Making a good age is easy. You just need to have a valid number of each major symbol type. I'm not sure if Ars Magica stuff spawns in ages though.

I should really finish something for once before going on to the next thing. This time I'm stopping working on my arcane tower to build a new base in the overworld.

I'd be happy to progress at all on my volcano, a mix of Borderlands2, Warframe, Dark Souls slowed me down.

Oh, and work too, both for my finals in school and for cash.

[up] Look up the Mystcraft wiki article on writing stable ages.

Also, Dense Ores and stable ages are mutually exclusive. The server might have instability turned off but I think that's a bit cheaty for survival.

Edit to add: Marc, I've put down a copper chest at x -192,z +318, with 20 silverwood logs and 32 greatwood. That ought to be enough to get you started with lab setup. In trade, I'll take the basalt, and any gold you're willing/able to spare.

Also, near my tower by the spruce forest is a Steve's Carts tree farm. Feel free to use it when I'm away as long as you replenish the fuel and turn it off when not in use (there's a lever controlling the track). Same deal with animals and crops: use as long as you replant/re-breed, help yourself to eggs.

I served myself to that silver wood/great wood logs and left a sizable amount of basalt cobblestone. Unfortunately, I have little if any gold to share.

Also, turns out you're pretty close to my volcano, I'm at -350 -70, a small boat ride away if you go by the sea. Not that my hole is anything worth visiting yet.

I was thinking of a drop/melee turtle/XP turtle/filter leading to an enderchest/leading to an ME network set-up for a wither skellie mob grinder. Big concerns are total lack of turtle knowledge and not quite sure how to move the skellies into a small area for murdering. If lava doesn't effect them I guess I could use that a substitute for water movement?

I know that there's a Wither Skelly spawner in the Nether Fort. Mostly because I've been using it to murder them to get myself some precious skulls over the past few days. I modified it so that it's fully enclosed, too. Not sure if that'll be of any use or not.

I guess we could go... wherever we please.
Swampertrox Since: Oct, 2010

The spawner can be moved to the overworld so that we can use water currents. I can probably also set up something with an XP turtle so we can farm experience for enchant books and Magic Levels.

[up] Is it high enough level to do that? I think it takes a tier 4 shard to do that.

Saint, next time you update, the item ID conflicts could be fixed by changing the Thermal Expansion recipes. The Multimeter and Pulverized Iron share item I Ds, with Earth Essence and Arcane Ash respectively. Both of the TE items have only about 10 recipes that would need changing put together, though.

Also, I have an idea for a spell library for Ars Magicka, where we all contribute copies of of the additional spell scrolls we have found. It's either that or sell them, but it would bea while before we would have the infrastructure for that.
