Yes. It's Koro-sensei. That's the only name he has.

Not sure if either Korosensei or Shinigami would be considered proper names by Death Note standards. Light couldn't kill L by just writting "L".

Only a birth name will work. You'd need the shinigami eyes to kill him with the Death Note, otherwise finding what his name originally was would be impossible.

@1423 The anime is actually quite good for what it is. The director is very good with timing, and they manage to capture the tension and sense of wrongness in those certain scenes pretty well. However, a lot of the best material was cut out. So... it's kinda like saying that this is a very delicious sandwich, but someone already took a bite out of it.

So, I happened to get my hands on volumes 12-17 (and the data book, holy cow is that thing dense) so I may post some translated extras in the next few weeks, depending. First up is these Tentacle Sayings from the back covers. One of them turned out to be kinda filthy... I also couldn't figure out the origin of one of them. Though, when I've done this before, I've always missed more than one, I think. Anyone want to try their hand at tracking it down?

Vol. 12
I like giraffes. But I like tentacles even more.

Koro International Movers commercial

Origin: A young girl featured in a commercial for Matsumoto International Movers which ran from 1994 to 2002. Originally, instead of “tentacles” it was “elephants,” a cartoon elephant being MIM's mascot.

Vol. 13
Why don't you just try a tentacle?

Koroji Ikari

Origin: Neon Genesis Evangelion, episode 6. From the scene when Shinji retrieves Rei from her entry plug after defeating Ramiel. She says “I'm very sorry, but I don't know what I should do or feel at a time like this” and Shinji responds “Why don't you just try smiling” or in the original Japanese “I think it would be good to smile.” She does. And thus was a Fountain of Expies born.

Vol. 14
New Next Nippon Nurunuru

Koronda

Origin: New Next Nippon Norimono/Vehicle (written in western characters), the slogan in ads for Honda's aptly named N-Box series of passenger cars.

Vol. 15
Shokushu ni totte kowai no wa, aku de wa nai. Ta no shokushu da.
It's not wrong to be afraid of tentacles. Other tentacles, that is.

Koro-sensei

Origin: ???

Vol. 16
We have tentacle cells!!

Kotarou Yanagisawa

Origin: Haruko Obokata, announcing her success creating STAP cells, a development which promised to cheaply and easily provide an effectively limitless supply of stem cells. However, it later turned out that her results were fraudulent.

Vol. 17
When repaying a loan or credit card debt, you might end up overpaying on tentacles. And... you might be able to get some of your overpaid tentacles returned to you, however there might also be restrictions on your credit card and... uh...

Koro Legal Professional Corporation

Origin: Commercial for Adire Legal Professional Corporation, a Japanese law firm focusing on bankruptcy and debt restructuring. The commercial starts with confused legal babble meant to represent how confusing legal babble is. “Tentacle” replaces “interest” here.

Do you have the translation of the author's comments?

[up]There are lots of comments, but I assume you mean the ones from the front cover flaps? Yes, I could do those.

Season 2 episode 2. First part? Good. Last part? Good. Middle part? Awful.

Spoilers for this weeks chapter.

Kayano gets a chest full of tentacles and Koro-sensei goes rage mode at the end.

Every accusation by the GOP is ALWAYS a confession.

Have we reached the five posts mark yet? Well, to be safe. Any bets on whether Kayano survives this? Unlike Neuro, this series hasn't really killed off characters...well, except for Yukimura, but she might count as a Death By Backstory.

Well she pretty much got a hole in her chest. The only way i could see her surviving this is Korosensei using his tentacles to hear her but sacrificing himself in the process

^^Ye, even people who we thought died actually survived .-. But then again that does look like a hole xD

I feel like Kayano's death makes sense - all the more tragic if she confesses her love to Nagisa before she dies.

She may have retained some regenerative capabilities along with heightened reflexes. And that didn't look like it went through her heart soooo...

Montegoraon Since: Jan, 2011

It looks like it went through her spine. In which case, the wound actually might not be fatal. It would just leave her paralyzed.
