Every fictional work you see has a plot that goes at its own pace. In fact, you can find out more about the concept of pacing here.

I think the speed of the pacing depends on a person's preferences. Take the show Revolution. This show is going to have 22 episodes in one season - which is a lot of episodes in this day and age. In a few days, episode 10 will air, making it very close to the halfway point. As a number of reviews bluntly point out, the show is slow-paced. Personally, I see no problem with the slow-paced nature of the show. If anything, it gives the viewers the chance to examine the world being portrayed and think about the details.

Besides, if you're not a fan of slow-paced works, just think about Dragon Ball. The anime gives lessons in slow pacing!
