This film does indeed look awesome.
That said, I can't help but feel that like KFP 2, it will sadly lose out to the R-rated sequel that's releasing on the same day:
Not to mention that said R-rated sequel from the dudes behind The Lego Movie, which gives it good publicity.
I think the publicity for HTTYD has been better than KFP's was, and I'm pretty sure there's more anticipation for it as well.

Looking for some stories?A new dragon species? And with ice breath?.........My god...The crossover fanart potential....It...it...IT'S OVER 9000!
Can't see the video no more.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectKind of gives away a bit, but still.
That poor sheep.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectThe villain is named Drago? And he even has kind of a Russian-sounding accent.
The first five minutes (ostensibly) have been released.
I say ostensibly because the editing seems a tad choppy.
Looking for some stories? So, based on what was shown, Snotlout has apparently resigned himself from Astrid (which was probably for the best, since Astrid was clearly with Hiccup) and is now trying his luck with Ruffnut (with whom he's having just as much success)
The animation and music are fantastic, the characters are still as fun as they were. Now let's see if the story is just as good.
Crap. I was trying to avoid all spoilers for this movie, but just accidentally came across one.
People are mirrors. If you smile, a smile will be reflected.I'm still trying to (unsuccessfully) not view these things for that reason.
Course, my main dilemma is deciding to watch this or 22 Jump Street first. The fact that the latter is directed by the dudes behind The Lego Movie makes that decision even harder. What say you? Furthermore, which do you think will be better?
Flipping a coin always helps.
"Curry killed the pussy hoping that I could kill the hate in you" - Curry, D. "TABOO | TA13OO." TA13OO, PH, 2018That's how I chose between Star Trek and Great Gatsby last summer, and it worked out fine for me.
Looking for some stories?Personally, I think I'd rather eat a quarter than see either of those, but I digress.
If you can't find a coin, there's always the scientific method: "eenie-meenie-miney-mo..."
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the Great"Eenie-meenie-miney-mo" can be rigged. If you do the full rhyme, you're going to end up opposite the one you started out on.
Looking for some stories?'MY-MOTHER-TOLD-ME-TO-PICK-THE-VERY-BEST-ONE-AND-YOU-ARE-NOT-MY HORSEMAN!' That usually works.
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatWow, I'm surprised that you guys are pretty much cool with whatever film I choose to see first.
I was expecting you all to tell me to see this film, and that picking 22 Jump Street would be stupid or something.
I think they'll both be good movies. I'm not planning to see 22 Jump Street, but I heard good things about the first one and have nothing but praise for The Lego Movie. It probably won't turn out like Kung Fu Panda 2 vs. Hangover 2, mainly because HTTYD 2 has been a lot better advertised and is highly anticipated in its own right.

Looking for some stories?I have no idea what 22 Jump Street is. Never even heard about the apparent first one. So I don't really have an opinion.
People are mirrors. If you smile, a smile will be reflected. To quickly sum up the first one, it is basically a reboot of a classic 80s cop show that involves undercover police in high school. The thing that makes the movie so great is that they are completely aware of the fact that its a reboot, and it also pokes fun at many of the cliches of high school and buddy cop films. Not to mention it being essentially a live-action cartoon, which isn't surprising when you consider the directors.
From the looks of things, the sequel seems to be poking fun at sequels in general, and how they are essentially inferior copies of the original story. I'm just as hyped for it as I am HTTYD 2, and for good reason.
So yeah, I strongly recommend you check both the original and the sequel out. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised, that is when you aren't laughing your head off. Just a fair warning though; like with Raining Sunshine and Everything is Awesome, you'll never get the main theme out of your head.
Me: "Huh, is that the music from Dinosaur playing faintly in the background- AUGH OW OH MY EARS"
Has anyone else looked at the new HTTYD site yet? It's been updated with a bunch of new info about the dragons and characters with hints about plot points in the sequel (notably a love square involving Ruffnut, Snotlout, Fishlegs and Eret). Also, we finally get confirmation of their ages.
