While it isn't always possible to tell if you did the right thing or not, how do you know when did the right thing? I had been in some situations where somethng seems right and even positive but it turned out to be the wrong decision in the long run. I am not not sure if everyone has gone through this but it seems that sometimes I tend to make things worse by trying to fix the problems that I had made. This doesn't always happen but often it feels as though that I make things worse for myself or my family. How do you know when you did the right thing in the long run?

Just think things through, and try to do the right thing. There is no foolproof method for always choosing the path that leads to the best result. Sometimes an act of kindness leads to negative consequences for reasons that could never be foreseen by the person responsible for the act. That doesn't make it any less kind. Similarly, sometimes an act of great cruelty leads to an unforeseen positive outcome. That doesn't justify the action. The worst thing that I ever did somehow resulted in an outcome slightly better than what would have happened had I never done it. That doesn't make my actions any less bad.

The point is, just try your best. No one can be asked to do any more than that. If you don't think your best will be enough, ask for help. And, finally, stop and think your choices through. If, even after all that, your choices still lead to a bad outcome, shrug it off. It's not your fault. You tried your best. There was nothing more you could have done. It was just bad luck. It can't happen every time. Just keep trying.

Accept your humanity. Learn from your mistakes. Accept your responsibility. Never give up. Never dwell on what you can't change.
