Bumping! I've made sure to read the rules before doing so. I hope it's okay.
So, I was playing The Asian Dynasties, and thought about the alliance options for each of the asian civs:
- China can initially ally with the British and the Russians, at level 25 with the French, and at level 40 with the Germans: possible reference to the Unequal Treaties?
- India can initially ally with the British and the Portuguese, at level 25 with the French, and at level 40 with the Ottomans: I was under the impression that this referred the British East India Company (which is already covered in the Campaign), the Portuguese referring to (IICR) Vasco Da Gama reaching India while Columbus did not, but I'm unsure about the French and the Ottomans.
- Japan can go into isolationism (Sakoku?) or ally with the Portuguese initially, at level 25 ally with the Dutch, and at leve 40 ally with the Spanish: possible references to the trades the Japanese did with these civs in addition to the English during Tokugawa's shogunate?
Awww man... here I was thinking somebody was gonna post that Ao E III was being given away for free, or something like that. :/
I'm trying to play the Age of Empires III: Complete Collection on Steam, and trying to port over my old save games from my old PC installation (from physical discs, including DLC), but the game does not seem to recognize my old save games at all. Does anyone have a clue why?
On another note, how long does it take to fully level up a home city? Do story missions count? And do experience points carry over between home cities?

Optimism is a duty.I unfortunately couldn't tell you why your game doesn't acknowledge your past saves. I imagine that the versions between the discs and Steam are too different or something like that.
As far as home cities go, each home city has to be leveled separately. If you play Russia, you don't level France, for example. And if you play supremacy, you don't level deathmatch. The campaign itself has a completely different home city, unrelated to the other home cities of normal matches. I think each campaign home city gets the levels from the previous chapters, but don't quote me on that.
As far as time to level them goes... Let's just say 'a long time' and keep it at that. Experience is gained from how much you get in each game though, so the more experience you farm in a given game, the faster you level your home city.

Do be aware however that skirmish and multiplayer matches have a cap on how much EXP the home city can get in a single match. Some Campaign missions, either because they're on timers or because they will automatically clear once a certain amount of EXP is reached, cannot be farmed as effectively as other missions.

I really miss bombarding the ground. And trees.
It's so stupid that they removed the ability for artillery to target trees, especially since there's several missions that requires you to clear trees to pass through
Say to the others who did not follow through You're still our brothers, and we will fight for you
