In "Twilight's Kingdom", does anyone know if Discord will survive or fail part 1?

I can't imagine they'd have Discord die now that he's a good guy, with this being a TV-Y show and all. Some are theorizing that he'll turn evil again, but I can't imagine they'd do that if only because it would show Fluttershy in a really bad light for trusting him so much. Plus, the entire point behind turning him good was to allow him to become a recurring character outside of epic two-parters.

My guess for Discord's involvement in the finale is that he'll sacrifice his life to save Twilight or something, making her realize that they really are friends and causing her key to activate, and then Rainbow Power will bring him back to life.

[up]It wouldn't just throw a bad light on Fluttershy — it'd wind up calling Celestia's judgment into question. And considering that I know a few fans who think Celestia already deserves a punch in the jaw for coming up with the idea in the first place...

I'd prefer it if the Big Bad had mental magic and could force someone into submission or a Face–Heel Turn. Would be plenty horrifying, show how the villain is a threat, and Hasbro gets to dodge adressing death once again.

[up]How exactly would that be different from Discord's mind control thing?

Maybe more along the lines of sleep or apathy rather than corruption.

@ max: +2 points for getting my Psychonauts reference.

I kind of fear the writers will give Discord Chronic Backstabbing Disorder/ Heel–Face Revolving Door. On one hand, I understand Discord is a creature of chaos and old habits die hard, but if this continues to be a pattern then even I would begin to wonder why keeping him around is a good idea.

I think it could be interesting to see Discord be the one being manipulated. Like, what would Discord have that could be a point of weakness for him? If the villain is the Pony of Shadows (like people keep guessing), would it pick at Discord's insecurities like it did Luna? Would we get Nightmare Discord? Did Celestia choose Discord over Twilight because she didn't realize he had insecurities to manipulate?

Or Discord has a ridiculously convoluted plan to get the job done. I'm just throwing theories against the wall to see what sticks.

Discord: Well it worked, didn't it?

Twilight: I swear, Discord, if you didn't have your head jammed up your butt already, I'd put it there for you.

[up] I'm slightly convinced there's a Rarijack shipper on the crew. I think it's McCarthy, but there might be more.

A screenshot from "Trade Ya".

IMO, they missed a chance for a callback by not having the banner say "WELCOME PRINCESS TWILIG".

OK. So this episode involves Twilight's Princess status, was moved back in production, involves friendship heavily.... I'm calling it as a key episode. 95% sure now.

And...no rainbow shimmering item. Guess Twilight gets her key in the finale, as the other not-the-finale episodes don't seem to focus on her.

... We've only got 3 (4 if you separate the two-parter) episodes left of the season. Huh.

This may have been linked here before, but songs from the show are now available for purchase on iTunes, including some never-before-heard extended versions of familiar songs! https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/my-little-pony-songs-ponyville/id866105915

Eh, I'll pass. MLP has always had good music, but it's not so excellent that I'd listen to it on it's own: it's mostly just safe, friendly kid songs. They generally work far better as part of the show than as stand-alone songs. That one from "Filli Vanilli" is probably the only one that I'd say is a good song on its own.

Yeah, the songs are good, but I wouldn't consider most of them to be very standalone. They tend to work better with context and visuals.
