Interesting to me too. Bomb tactics are deadly, but not as linear as guns, and also requires more brains. I just wonder why the shady ones wanna put him in the island all of a sudden, and the look on his mom's face is just wrong
What profit is it to a man, when he gains his money, but loses his internet? Anonymous 16:26 I believe...The game looks interesting. The series... less so. Come to think of it, the first episode might have actually been solid if it had dispensed with those insufferable and insubstantial internal monologues and focused on cultivating an atmosphere while allowing the audience to make their own judgments.
That said, all is not lost; I'll at least give it a second or third episode.
I liked the first episode on the whole it has a nice Battle Royale vibe to it. I thought it was a bit odd it took the main character so long to work out he had bombs and how to use them but I suppose I could blame that on concussion.
I haven't read the manga but this is what I think is going on The main character killed his mother and when he was arrested he was given the choice of going to prison or playing a real life version of his favourite game and he hit his head and got concussion when he parachuted in.
That actually... makes sense. It would be a step above a generic corporate conspiracy, but not quite enough of a step to keep its head above water on its own.
Haven't watched the episode yet, but I heard the manga volume covers are made to look like Xbox 360 game covers. Quite an amusing detail.

Anyone who's read the manga will tell you that you're flat-out wrong with that WMG of yours. :P
The survival game is just an excuse for a gaming company — the same company the MC tried to apply for — for balance testing of their game, the SAME game you see shown at the beginning. You heard right: they're having people kill each other so that their online game plays better. The money they give in return for having all these people exiled to an island to kill each other is from the betting going on, as the company also set up the survival games as something to bet on by the rich and idle.
Oh god why did I highlight that
Depending on how many episodes the anime has, it'll be actually shown eventually how the game company execs are serious bastards. Also, unlike Battle Royale, someone who's been sent away to the island STILL has a real good chance of getting sent back for another go if enough people hate you.
lol I've surmised as much because of the preview for the next ep, which would be talking about the girl.
I had Deadman Wonderland vibes on this one when I first watched it.
I'm reading this because it's interesting. I think. Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot, over.I just wish it wasn't an island. Anything but an island.
If it wasn't an island, they wouldn't have as many excuses for wet t-shirts, clothing damage, and people running about naked
Good first episode though. I am definitely intrigued by the game itself though. This whole thing seems like Demoman's wet dream.
I've got new mythological machinery, and very handsome supernatural scenery. Goodfae: a mafia web serial
Junya Inoue admitted that the situation was in part based on Bomberman.
Not gonna follow the anime, but I hope you guys enjoy it! It's a fairly generic battle royale series, but I had fun reading the (literally) explosive fights.
I don't know too much about the manga, but I think the opening song is ABSOLUTELY AWESOME.
You know, I wish that - Just once - in a Battle Royale-esque game, the main character will get into the spirit of things and decide to kill his way to victory, with a minimum of angst.
That wouldn't make for a sympathetic character for the audience to follow though. In this case, the character might be a lazy bum and jerk to his mom and his foster father, but he's still got a conscience deep down.
And really, the are TRUE jerkasses on island. I mean, you don't get sent there on the first place to be part of the deadly balance testing (stupid I know) unless someone REALLY hates you and want you gone.
Well, I believe you could do it fairly easily: Simply focus on how scared and overwhelmed the main character is, and how he's surrounded by bastards made of bastard filling. So when he finally turns the tables and starts giving them what-for, in increasingly violent and horrific ways, the audience will be cheering him on.
@Myssa Rei. Well I was only basing my WMG on the one episode so I would have been surprised if I was right straight off the bat. I will resist reading your spoilers though (I have already spoiled myself for one series this season). Interesting to find the series was based on Bomberman though, I use to love that game.
Well, the 2nd ep was a backgrounder on the girl. So the end of the 2nd is the same as the end of the 1st.
I'm reading this because it's interesting. I think. Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot, over.Episode 2 was a lot better than the first and actually explained some things about the setting (It looks like things will be explained even more in the next episode. So everyone on the island was sent there by someone who hates the? That is interesting.
you know, i'm kinda glad half the screen went dark when fatso was doing whatever he was doing.
Hmmm, the latest ep was quite meh and I don't like where things are going (it's approaching the full of booms but still boring route).
I'm reading this because it's interesting. I think. Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot, over.Third episode was for me the most interesting so far. Giving this series until episode 5 at the very least.
Plants are aliens, and fungi are nanomachines. He gets into the "zone" in ep 4. lol
I'm reading this because it's interesting. I think. Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot, over.I've also read the manga, and I might check out the anime.
Man, this brings new meaning to being Nice to the Waiter huh?
One Strip! One Strip!
First anime episode of the 2 part anime premier is out and subbed at the usual places.
Hmm, an anime about a Shooter game in the real world sounds interesting, to me.
