Or, given she had no reaction to that, and we've seen RD creating tornadoes on her own to deal with issues.. it's not that big an issue And not a 'reckless' idea. And going by the way it looked, and how both RD and LD were acting during it, I'd say they simply made it to big for them ton control, which likely would be considered reckless.

So yeah more like JT's thing about doing something that wouldn't in itself be considered reckless, in a way that would be.

No, it is 'reckless', but Reckless might as well be RD's middle name.

@Mio: Thing is, I don't think that using the tornado is, in and of itself, reckless. I mean, look at "Hurricane Fluttershy". It's a technique that used by civilians for the explicit purpose of sucking water up. The issue with LD wasn't that she used a tornado, it's that she did so without regard for the safety of others. Militarily it's the difference between "driving a tank" and "driving a tank to the local drive-thru".

I guess I just expected there to be more control over and expectations of discipline from the recruits given the boot camp like atmosphere. When it wasn't there I assumed it was a failure on the part of Spitfire and the staff, and I felt that between Lightning Dust behavior, Rainbow Dash's outburst, Spitfire's behavior and eventual apology backed up that view of the situation.

Anyway, that aside. Has the RD and Spitfire comic actual come out yet. I'm actually kind of interested in that.

Yeah, it's been out since Tuesday. I gave my opinion on it a bit back.

Just read issue #25. First of all, how odd for Comixology to make the primary cover the one that has nothing to do with the story.

The story was pretty fun, outside of the huge issue of Twilight just straight up refusing to use her magic against the Cattle Rustlers arbitrarily. Making up an excuse for her to be absent would have been a lot less frustrating, IMO. At least in Star Trek, the prime directive is an established thing and they usually find a way to work around it. Still, Twilight did have fun moments like that lame joke she told, which is saved by the panel of her giggling to herself afterward. If I remember correctly, the Cattle Rustler leader wasn't present in the Friends Forever Rarity/Applejack issue, which explains why they are so much tougher this time around. The "intense expressions" art was all pretty good, and I'm reminded of those moments in The Life and Times of Scrooge Mc Duck where Scrooge got angry.

It was interesting that we got three different pieces of extra content. The tumbleweed story and Spike's cosplay were cute. The Zecora story had really neat art.

I loved this issue. It was really fun. Some hilariously bad jokes, and some really good ones. Also, the Zecora back-up was awesome, with an adorable ending.

Issue 25 didn't really do much for me. The art was beautiful and some of the gags were fun, but I feel like the plot itself just fell flat. It had an interesting premise and all, but there were too many details that just wrecked my willing suspension.

The first of which is that despite Applejack and Rarity completely wrecking the cattle rustlers in a previous issue (which is made even worse by the issue acknowledging this), Applejack not only gets one-shot by their leader, but also had to try to hide behind Twi's magic.

The second is that Twi refused to use her magic. If she was concerned about harming them, there's zero reason she couldn't have just restrained them (as she's done multiple times with her friends, I might add). On top of that, no sane, responsible individual would hold back after seeing the kind of danger the rustlers pose to the lives of everyone else (seriously, setting a building on fire should have more than crossed the line).

Lastly, Pinkie set them on fire during their final attack. And they don't even blink, when they should have been completely incapacitated. It might as well have not even been there.

In all honesty, I found the little extra in the back far more interesting than the main comic.

Jeez... this is the second time Cook & Price have struck out with an action/adventure based story, from the sounds of it.

(Throw tomatoes at me if you must, but I actually didn't think "Reflections" was that bad. It didn't make full use of its potential, yes, but at least it didn't have the back-breaking plot holes of either "Twilight won't use her magic because Reasons" or the even dumber "Changelings break up the Mane 6 in five seconds" scene from part 2 of "The Return of Queen Chrysalis").

Maybe they should stick with comedic, slice-of-life stories from now on...

[up]I agree with that last sentence. It seems that whenever Katie tries to write an adventure story, she fails in one way or another {Though I still liked the changeling arc despite that flaw}, particularly with the "Keeping everypony in-character" bit {First Celestia, and now Twilight}. She really should just stick with comedic slice-of-life stories.

Okay, just read the issue, and... wow, everyone was right. The Zecora back-up is the real highlight here.

It might be a measly 3 pages long and only have the barest semblance of a plot, but the pretty pretty pictures and the almost Neil Gaiman-esque storytelling more than make up for it.

Maybe they should have had Twilight go to the Pony Trek con with Spike (surely she'd be into that sort of thing) to handwave not having her magic solve the problem. Yeah, we wouldn't have the whole Mane Six, but do we need all of them for every Story Arc? I thought it was a nice change of pace in the Manehatten thief arc that they only used half of the Mane girls (and Apple Bloom on the CMC side of things).

Either way I do have to agree that Katie's strength at this point is in more comedic slice-of-life stuff. The Cook/Price issues of Micro Series are the best.

My copy of the first Omnibus came in. I've heard that the pages are smaller than the usual issues but given that this contains the first twelve issues for a cheaper price than they would cost individually I'm okay with that. What I'm less okay with is that they apparently cut out part of the end of the first story arc but I can deal with that.

Friends Forever #12 was pretty fun, though it went on a bit too long, I felt. The art was pretty nice and there were nice visual gags, though one thing that bothered me about the board game part is that Pinkie's spaces moved you back while Twilight's moved you ahead, which doesn't match the flavor it was going for. At the end, when Twilight joined in on eating the snacks, I was glad to see that Twilight was able to stop eating on her own, and was able to convince Pinkie to stop eating, instead of just ending with Twilight joining in like I feared.

The fact that there were two snack servers and one of them had princess curls made me wonder if they were supposed to be a reference to Pretty Cure or something, but no, it seems like they are original characters. Their designs are nice, but their names are a bit too on the nose. Fawn Doo, Marcie Pan.

Well, that was pretty insane. I may have a bit of bias going on since I generally like the Twi-Pinkie dynamic, but I quite enjoyed this issue.

I enjoyed the issue. I thought it was fun. I especially liked Pinkie Pie immediately getting worried when Twilight admitted defeat. O.O.C. Is Serious Business, indeed. Also, just lots of great comedy.

It's 12 issues and its not like the page sizes take away from the comic. I got my copy last week and enjoyed it.

No, they do take away form it. I'm used to my Franco-belgian Album format for Bande Dessinee. That thing is barely larger than a Manga Tankobon! See here for a comparison.

No it doesn't. You can still clearly understand what everyone is saying and what is happening. For all intents and purposes the size doesn't detract from it at all.

By that logic, any size is okay as long as the font remains readable. I for one am more comfortable with a bigger, larger, more spacious format. But, you know, that's just me.

It can be, but it depends on the person. This is a really subjective argument, though, so you should probably just agree to disagree.
