Would she and Peter be in a relationship if she were male? It wasn't Flash Thompson that the Goblin dropped to his death.
My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.The exact specifications of their relationship is irrelevant to Goblin's actions. He killed Gwen because she was Peter's friend who, by sheer coincidence, happened to be a girl.
You fell victim to one of the classic blunders!Of course, it was a writing decision to make Richard world-class geneticist whose findings drive the plot.
In the comics, both Richard and Mary were spies.
Mary could have been the world-class geneticist or a partner scientist to Richard. It was a decision for her not to be.

Forever liveblogging the AvengersJust no winning with you people. _-_
I give up. You win. Let's move on.
You fell victim to one of the classic blunders!I'm just pointing out that everything in a narrative is a decision.
Its a constructed thing so everything has a motive and reason behind it.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersNo, he killed her because she was Peter's Love Interest, and that is related to her gender. Again, it wasn't Flash Thompson or Robbie Robertson he chucked.
My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.Although, later, when fresh out of Gwens, Norman did get Flash in a truck crash.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersThat's fascinating. I don't care. Reference: 2080
Topic of discussion:
Eddie Brock. I can't remember. Has he put in an appearance yet?
You fell victim to one of the classic blunders! In the Amazing movies? Don't think so.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersThe key point is that she was killed for reasons that had nothing to do with *herself*. She was killed purely as a way to hurt Peter. That is the very definition of "Women in Refrigerators."
Now, if you wanted to have her die, and not be a case of this? She should have been killed *by Electro*, in the battles that ensued. Then, she'd be dying because of her own decision ( to help in the fight against Electro ), and hopefully while doing something more meaningful than "be helpless damsel". "Female" and "dead" are not the only parts of the equation: "purely as an object to advance someone else's story" is the real core of the problem. And her death in TASM 2 was most certainly that, seeing as Harry showed up for literally no other reason than "kill the hero's girlfriend to hurt him".
Home of CBR Rumbles-in-Exile: rumbles.fr.yuku.comWho's a good pick for Jameson.
You fell victim to one of the classic blunders! Can we get Ed Asner?
Forever liveblogging the AvengersSame guy that did him in the Raimi movies. J. K. Simmons. Guy's the doppleganger of the comic character. End of story. Next question.
Ed Asner's still alive? Coulda sworn he'd died at some point.
You fell victim to one of the classic blunders!Nope. The former Screen Actor's Guild president is still very much alive according to his wikipedia page:
I second that J.K. Simmons returns as J. Jonah Jameson. Guy's an iconic live-action version of him.
J.K. Simmons should have the Jonah Jameson role on lock for life.
My various fanfics. He's already crossed universes to play Jameson in all the Avengers cartoons and Disney XD cartoons. There's no reason he can't do it here.
My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.I mostly liked how they handled Gwen Stacy's dead...I mean she was there not because she was stupid or because she was kidnapped, but because SHE decided to be there, knowing that she might die, but knowing that she had the knowledge Spiderman needed to defeat Electro. While the attack was related to Spiderman, what lead to it wasn't directly connected to him, but to her doing what she considered right. It is literally her last act to tell Peter that he has no right to make this decision for her.
I have two points, though, and sadly they a mayor ones: For one, I think they rushed it. The whole movie felt like there should be one beforehand, one which showed Peter and Harry just being friends and Peter and Gwen just being happy. Honestly, I would have loved it if the movie had simply ended with her not getting the place at Oxford she wanted (because no matter how good you are, there might be someone even better than you), and Peter comforting her, and she saying exactly that and that she'll have another chance soon for which she will work until then (in short: Using a movie for giving her a character arc while still showing how important her presence is for Peter), and then killing her off one movie after. I think the loss would be more keenly.
And second: What the hell is their problem with ending one of those movies on a sad note? I get that they didn't want to copy the overdramatic BS from the first Spiderman Trilogy, but good God, Gwen Stacy just died! Let it linger! Don't try to distract the audience with some stupid rhino guy!
I have to say, I liked how they characterised Spidey (You know, the whole, "Charismatic, neighbourly guy who tries to make people feel special," thing.)
Fire, air, water, earth...legend has it that when these four elements are gathered, they will form the fifth element...boron.Yeah, Garfield and Stone were spot-on casting. I don't think anyone can really argue that.
My various fanfics.Aside from the aforementioned problems about Gwen's death, I think something else that didn't quite work for me was the timing of it. In the comics, her death was the climax of the Spidey/Goblin rivalry that had been escalating over the years, and indirectly led to the death of the Goblin.
In the movie, it was the first thing the Goblin did, in an attempt to give him an Establishing Character Moment before the movie ended. It felt very rushed, and lacked the impact of the comic story. In addition to the issues mentioned before.
Weird in a Can (updated M-F)And if he doesn't die in his next appearance, people are going to be upset. This isn't like comics where you can string this sort of thing out, all people know is he killed a beloved character and will now have gotten away without paying for it TWICE.
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatDear ol' dad's done that like fifty times in Ultimate Marvel.
Osbourns and karma don't mix.

Would Goblin have not killed her if she were male?
"Well I was gonna kill someone to make Peter pay, but since the only other person here is a guy I won't bother."
