Hey, people. So I find myself with one of those life changing descicions. I only have enough money to buy one game, and in the end, it comes to a choice between The Last Story or Xenoblade Chronicles.

Now, I have been waiting to get my hands on both of these games for a while, and, frankly, I want them both. But, if I had to choose one... Which would it be?

I have been told that The Last Story is a sort of successor to Final Fantasy, which is a plus for me, and the story seems very interesting. However, Xenoblade has been hyped as the ultimate experience of all time, and all that, so there's that.

Any helpfull feedback is appreciated.

EDIT: And while we're at it, how good is Pandora's Tower compared to these two?

Well, for starters, we have a recommendations forum, so I'm pretty sure this little topic here will be deleted in a few minutes.

But while we're here, I might as well put in my two cents as someone who owns all three of those titles. Of the three, Xenoblade is by far the best value, clocking easily 80 hours of gameplay time, not adding the replay value. Most of that time can be spend on running the many, many sidequests or just exploring the beautiful world. Has a well-written story that makes you constantly wonder what's beyond that next hill, interesting gameplay elements and a fun combat system. It does some things I don't quite agree with, but I'd call it pretty dang good either way.

The Last Story is quite a bit shorter (around 20 hours), but features more action-packed story and gameplay, with a combat system that is, in my opinion, a bit more fun than Xenoblade's. Does a few things right, especially the aesthetics of the character's equipment*

, but not enough to actually recommend it over Xenoblade. It's good but not especially so.

Pandoras Tower is a completely different beast, being more of a Zelda-style dungeon crawler. The game is short, and made on a budget, but done quite masterfully despite the limitations. Very cool boss battles, and the way the relationship between the two main characters is portrayed should be part of a writing master class. Don't pay full price*

, but do pick it up once you get the chance. Worth your time.

All right, thanks, didn't know about the Recommendations thread. Yeah, Pandora's Tower seemed like the sort of game I'd wait a few months for the price to go down (even if I do love a zelda style game).

Yeah, Pandora's Tower is quite the experience, but simply not worth full price. It would probably have done pretty great if the age of all-digital distribution had come a bit earlier, but alas.
