Calling a heterosexual, same-sex couple "platonic" seems like a misuse of the word.

Speaking words of fandom: let it squee, let it squee.

Alright, the crowner is here. Do I need to talk to a moderator or something to attach it...?

if we really want to change the name why not just make it Best Friends Forever or Life Long Friends.

or if the emphasis is really that they're best friends who are the same sex then something like No Homo or No Homo Bros or No Homo Love or Bromance. unfortunately theres no equivalent word for bromances between women. or a non gender indicative equivalent.

not sure if No Homo in of itself carries Unfortunate Implications.

[up] Those names seem iffy.

[not sure if No Homo in of itself carries Unfortunate Implications.]

It does, as do most of your other proposed names. Life Long Friends sounds possible, but again it's virtually identical to Platonic Life-Partners.

Anyway, the crowner's been up for about a week and it seems like renaming is in the overwhelming majority. Can I mark the issue solved and start an alternate names crowner now?

I almost proposed leaving Heterosexual Life-Partners as is, and renaming Platonic Life-Partners to Homosexual Life Partners. However, I think that renaming Heterosexual Life-Partners is the better idea.

No Homo is hugely offensive and carries terrible implications. Let's not use it.

Yeah, the word "homosexual" has FAR too much connotational baggage to be used simply for "same sex friend".

It's now been up for a month and the rename option still has a clear majority. Can we start the alternate names crowner now?

The crowner does not meet the required ratio to being renamed despite being up for weeks. Renaming fails. Locking crowner.

Is there any other business to do or can this thread be locked?

Crown Description:

The title carries the Unfortunate Implications that homosexuals cannot form platonic relationships. Furthermore, the trope is extremely similar to Platonic Life Partners.
