I'm not sure how the way the serum is taken in affects the result. Eren and the Frieda took it through their bloodstream and where thin and Eren had a large head to body ratio, but no real deformities. The Eldians banished to Paradis take into their napes and a number of them are very deformed.

My thoughts about Rod is that colossal titans, both mindless and the special one are meant to come along with another serum to give them a useful body. Like the colossal titan and colossal serum give size but not a body that can use it well.

Armin's colossus titan has a thin body type and lacks Bertolt's giant legs and core muscles. Likely Bertolt was given a pure titan that was already buff before hand or had a combination of different titan serums.

We don't know what Armin's Colossal Titan looks like, only what his mindless form was. And Eren's mindless titan didn't exactly look like the Titan he has now.

Occam's Razor says Hot Rod happened because he licked up an evaporating serum instead of getting injected like everyone else. Marley injects people in the nape because that's the easiest way to do it & throw them off the wall without getting themselves killed in the process.

We saw it in the May chapter.

One thing I don't think people are considering with Armin's version of the Colossal is that we may have been seeing him after he'd been burning for a while. Because remember that using the heat powers literally consumes muscle tissue, slowly reducing the Titan to a skeleton.

Though my friend raised an interesting question concerning another Titan:

Since Annie's Titan is indeed the Female Titan (Marley calling it that) it would be assumed that women are the traditional vessels for it. So what would happen if a male vessel got it by accident, ala Ymir?

Does it still have a distinctly feminine body shape, or ???

We saw Zeke imagining it, and there was notably darker shading obscuring any real details on it.

I was rereading through the Uprising arc and one bit stuck out to me: after the gang gets out of the glowing crystal cave, and does a recap, Eren has a slightly clearer flashback of the words his father told him before giving him the titan serum, almost exactly the same words Kruger tells Grisha at the end of chapter 89.

(Chapter 67, page 19.)

Grisha: "Mikasa and Armin, and everyone else, if you want to save them... then you must... take control of this power."

The more I reread the stuff about this particular arc, the more interesting it feels. The narrative increasingly asks your sympathy of the antagonists, while at the same time reinforcing that it's still necessary to oppose them or have them come around to the Survey Corps' side. First Reebs, then Sanes, then Rod and his family, and even Kenny. It also asks us to judge Erwin, Grisha and the SC, to some extent, while still expecting us to root for them.

I said some pages ago that Shingeki doesn't quite have grey morality, and I stand by that, but I wonder how things will proceed from here onwards.

Huh, that makes me wonder if some made an zombie plague (in regards to the Titans) Attack on Titan Scenario for Plague Inc were you control the Titans and try to eat everyone.

Maybe each of the nine Titans has one aspect of the original titan, Ymir.

The female titan's power is that it looks female.

It's kind of a dud, really.

Founding Titan was also pretty feminine though.

We don't know what the Founding Titan looked like. We've only seen artistic images, and how often are those at all accurate?

100% of the time, except when it's convenient to the plot.

We know what the Founding Titan looks like; Frieda is seen using it in a flashback trying to fight Grisha.

The Founding Titan's human pilot could of just had long hair. The rest of him certainly didn't look as feminine as Frieda's

The Founding Titan seems to remain consistent to the basic look of the current host, from what we've seen. Frieda had a very feminine form, while Uri's seemed to be lean and kind of pretty boy-ish like him.

The Female Titan did have several tricks, but I think a lot of those seem more like standard abilities taught to all the Marleyan shifters. Zeke mentions being able to do the selective hardening trick, but Levi was too fast for him to actually use it. And Galliard's Jaws seems to have armored plates on it, compared to Ymir's version. So Marley probably has a bunch of serums to give specific abilities, the same way the Reiss family had that case of serums.

Since Zeke's scream is tied into his Royal blood, perhaps the Female Titan's primary ability is Luring? Since that seemed to be her task among the Warriors, gathering hordes of Titans and leading them around to attack specific targets. Not controlling them like Zeke, but she seemed able to more reliably aim them than any other shifter we've seen.

Well the thing is from what we've seen all the Titan shifters can lure hordes of Titans to a certain degree as the Titans can sense the human pilot in them. That's why Erwin's plan to get Eren back from Reiner and Bertolt worked. The horde of Titans immediately went after him once they came into vision.

Although that does make me wonder why when the Armored Titan broke the door of Shingshina that a horde of Titans wasn't following him. There was mindless Titans there but abnormals were not following him.

Because there was an entire city full of meatbags that needed eating.

It's also possible that BRA went of their way to avoid abnormals for that very purpose.

Or Reiner simply wasn't in Titan mode long enough to really draw attention. All he had to do was shift while out of sight, build up momentum and break a gate, then get back out of sight and assume the appearance of a scared little boy.

Actually, we saw that Annie can focus them. Because when she lured the Titans in to devour her, they completely ignored the soldiers in order to attack her Titan. In comparison, when the Armored Titan was attacked it was basically just chaos. Everyone was getting attacked, Reiner just happened to be their focus because he was the most obvious target.

So...the Female Titan's ability is getting men to mob her?

Man, I dunno.

Annie uses Taunt. It's super-effective.

It's not like each and every titan has particularly signature abilities. The Armored Titan is just... armored and resilient and really hard to kill. The Colossal is simply immense and adept at breaking apart buildings and enemy formations, a living siege. The Dancing/Jaws Titan is incredibly fast and precise, while the Beast Titan seems to specialize in... throwing things? The Cart Titan is overspecialized to carry troops and supplies. And finally, the Attack Titan appears to just be straightforwardly good at regenerating quickly and just never giving up.

I feel like the Female Titan is supposed to be an all-rounder. Annie demonstrates great strength and stamina, speed and keen judgment, hardening ability, and is able to successively titanize after just a few minutes.

[up] Good point.

And it seems that many of those "special" traits are ones they've figured out how to make into serums. The Armor can be given to anyone, to a lesser degree while the Armored Titan is permanently that way. And you can make Colossal Titans that are huge and generate heat, as evidenced by the Wall Titans and Rod Reiss's Titan.

Really, those two are the only super-specialized ones compared to all the others we've seen so far. The Beast Titan doesn't seem to have any special abilities on its own, since Zeke's powers are a result of his royal blood.

Jaws has sharp teeth and claws.

Beast titan is a really strong monkey.

The Colossus is huge and possesses an odd control over his body. He can decompose his body in seconds, do it more slowly while leaving his frame intact to make a shield and move things from his stomach to his neck (Ymir and 3dmg)

The attacking titan is a really strong berserker glass cannon.

The armor titan can use armor over is entire body without it breaking off.

The founding titan is the central coordinate between Eldiains and can control all of them.

The female titan has no known special ability.

The cart titan has its odd body shape, the ability to last for months is likely training on Piecks part rather than an ability.

And the ninth unknown titan.

What the hell kind of titan was Ymir Fritz?

I've seen a theory kicked around that the Beast Titan isn't always ape like and the animals in the season 2 intro are the forms it previously took.

[up] That would explain the Giant Horse-thing in that one image of the Titan clans fighting.
