I'm honestly okay without Falcon, mostly because gimmick heroes are something I'm not a fan of outside one or two per team. Hawkeye covers that and Widow covers the Badass Normal aspect. I'd prefer someone like Ms Captain Marvel (or would it be Colonel?). Then again, that may be my desire to add another shapely woman to the team.

A friend told me that Columbia Pictures, with Joss Whedon, met with 20th Century Fox. Maybe some Marvel heroes licensed to other companies would show up?

Fox own the X-men, so maybe Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver? They would need to introduce a new backstory, unless they intend to merge the X-men films with the Avengers... which actually could work, if they ignored the main X-men films and rebooted the X-men from First Class.

My concern with Wasp is that I'm not sure how she would work as a newbie. She's always been a part of the team and would be weird to have her have the same kind of friction characters like Quicksilver and Hawkeye did when they joined the team. More than most characters she would benefit from the prestige of being a founding member in order to fit in the team.

I've always thought it would be cool to give Falcon the personality of US Agent in an adaption. I'm not entirely sure why except I find the latter more interesting and he's got a really low chance of turning up.

So who do we think is at all possible for joining the Avengers? Here's a list of anyone I think has a half decent chance in the next film;

  • Vision
  • Wasp
  • Hank Pym
  • Black Panther
  • Carol Danvers
  • Nova
  • Captain Mar-vel
  • She-Hulk
  • Falcon
  • Scarlet Witch
  • Quicksilver
  • Dr Strange*
  • Luke Cage
  • Jim Rhodes

Ultimate Jan worked as a scientist for SHIELD I believe, so if they had to go that route that could be a good compromise. Give her the personality of the original, of course.

Of those listed, they all have a good chance.

  • Ant-Man seems like a shoe-in.
  • Wasp is someone Whedon says he's fond of and with Ant-Man getting a movie she seems likely. She answers some of the complaints about the team being a sausage fest.
  • Falcon is already getting a role in Captain America 2 and he could be like Black Widow, where they debuted her in Iron Man 2. He also answers some of the complaints about the team being way too white.
  • Ms. Marvel/Captain Marvel just seems likely to me, especially if the second film is cosmic-influenced. Marvel has been giving her a huge push recently, and her new costume seems almost like they had a potential movie in mind. As with Wasp, she helps make the team less of a boy's club.

As much as I love the Black Panther, I'd think they want to do him as a solo film first. Unlike the others, he's not tied to SHIELD and it doesn't look like he has a shot of being introduced in a prior movie first. Unless they took a note from those Ultimate Avengers cartoon movies and made Wakanda a key part of Avengers 2, I don't think it will happen.sad

Fox and Marvel already have a deal in place - both companies can use Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, but if Fox uses them they can't mention The Avengers, and if Marvel uses them they can't mention mutants or Magneto or anything.

Anyways, since this is moving into general Marvel Cinematic Universe discussion and moving away from the article in the OP, let's say we move this to the Marvel Cinematic Universe thread?
