Do I!? I thought you'd never ask!
I was waiting for the right moment.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersAlright then. Carnival of Monsters. Go for it.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.Damn, I was going to nominate The Ark solely so people will have an excuse to watch it and decide for themselves if it is racist. But Carnival of Monsters sounds cool.
Also just noticed the rule for just the good stuff first, yup totally paying attention over here.

Make sure you watch the version with the alternate theme song or it'll cost you points.
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatInferno's better.
Sorry,couldn't resist!
Anyone wish the functionaries had makeup that looked a bit more like the three main aliens?

So here I am doing my liveblog thing for part 1, as has become my custom.
- Welp, that was quite the opening sequence. I have a soft spot for the Affably Evil, so it gets a mark of approval from me.
- Ooh, Post-UNIT Pertwee. There's a period I haven't visited before.
- Maybe it's just the Robert Holmes writing, but this kind of feels like I'd be more at home with Four.
- Hrm. I about to make a Zygons reference when I saw that plesiosaur, but that hasn't happened yet.
- Oh my. The major's black haired daughter is named Clara. Man, this serial is predicting the future in lots of weird ways, isn't it?
- Erm, it's actually Claire. Nevermind, I suppose.
- Everyone really seems to be taking the plesiosaur in stride. But they find The Doctor unexplained presence to be vitally important. I guess the gravity of 'they don't trust the Doctor plot' has never been stronger.
- And apparently the Sonic only works on electronic locks.
- … Why does Jo carry around a ring of skeleton keys?
- Okay, I think I get what's going on. They're inside the entertainer's box. That's what the fault detected on it earlier was.
It's kind of an interesting one, structurally, what with the two plot threads going on that are completely unrelated unless you're good a reading in between the lines. Unfortunately, we still had to invest most of the first episode into set up- and a lot of it seems like it won't be relevant. But that's nothing out of the ordinary. And I still like I should say something about the obvious social commentary going on with the aliens, but honestly, that sort of thing tends to make my eyes glaze over.
Jo is supposed to be versed in escapology, among her other skills. I can't recall her carrying a ring of skeleton keys in any other story, though I may be forgetting.
And I agree, the "two seemingly unrelated plotlines" is a fun way to structure the narrative and make the viewer wonder how the two are ever going to tie together. It kept me guessing the first time, though it becomes clear what's going on in episode 2, so I didn't have long to wait.
