Does Not Illustrate: Video Game Remake

For all one can tell, this could be one of the many sequels, since it doesn't actually show that it's a remake. The caption even acknowledges this - the image is taken from two different parts of 1-1.

Can we get a shot of the same part of 1-1?

Keep Until Better Image Suggested.

But I don't like the caption, I think we can do without that (or at least, without the "hottip" part).

Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight!

Any two screenshots of either The Secret Of Monkey Island SE or Monkey Island 2 Le Chucks Revenge SE could work, I think.

Here are two galleries with comparisons: [1] [2]

It's funny, I thought we had this thread before, only for it to turn out that that thread was for Nostalgia Level.

[up] They look almost nothing alike. Doesn't really help sell the "remake" angle.

No one seems to have replied to my Monkey Island suggestion, but I still think those would be the most clearly illustrative examples as you can literally switch during any scene between the old and the new versions.

Here are a few comparions I found through GIS, but I can take screenshots of brighter (daylight) scenes if that would be clearer: [1] [2] [3] [4]

[up]I like the bridge one. The campfire also works. Both of the others look better in the older version, though, so they're not good for me.

I think people don't respond well when you toss an entire gallery to them, as that's often not all that much better than linking to a GIS. Concrete suggestions, on the other hand, tend to be much better.

Yeah, I figured the two galleries might be too much, that's why I looked up a few concrete examples. Sorry about that.

Anyway, even if you prefer the older game's visual style, the images from the SE's are clearly the ones updated, I think.

IMO, Cover > Campfire > Bridge

I don't think the cover is anything but text, though. It says Special Edition, but the artstyle is just different, not improved as you'd expect from a remake. The bridge and campfire are in-game shots that clearly show that the game has been updated with modern graphics. It's sort of a case of Show, Don't Tell.

Pokemon can work if it's a shot of an exterior area and not the inside of a Gym (since their G3/G4 remakes were almost totally redesigned anyway). Red/Blue versus Firered/Leafgreen or Gold/Silver versus Heartgold/Soulsilver (which is probably better anyway since the latter uses some 3D).

I could make a new version of the current image that actually matches up the two parts of 1-1.

[up]I don't think that's an option anymore, since we're already using 1-1 for Nostalgia Level.

Quite a few parts from there could work.

Notably the Gengar/Nidorino fight before the title screen, Professor Oak welcoming you to thw world of Pokemon, and his telling you not to go out of Pallet Town.

Anyone up for, say, an FF 1 comparison between original NES and (any of its) remakes?

The hard part is going to be finding a good comparison on the Internet. Like a combat scene with same-named party members, same monster party, etc. A noncombat scene would be easier....

I've got two Pokemon Red And Blue shots. All that's needed is to combine them together.

Could use a little more decoration (the different native resolutions of the shot are an issue), but nice.
