I could go with either. Gantz has some spectacular examples, but they wouldn't resize well at all.
I got two major sources that we can use:
- Fallout 3: ([1]◊, [2]◊, [3]◊)
- Real Life locations like Modern-day Detroit ([4]◊), Kowloon Walled City ([5]◊) or Fallujah ([6]◊)
I would probably add more later.

"You can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave".I think most pictures of this trope would have troubles with resizing, as they're cluttered by definition. I think the Fallout suggestions are relatively clear, though.
Edit: To elaborate a little, I think the first one is the most clear, while the second shows destroyed landmarks, though it's more cluttered. You don't need to recognise the landmarks to recognise them as landmarks either. The third is still good, but less so than the other two.

Check out my fanfiction!Fallout #2 is the best of those.
I like 3.1 best.
please don't capitalize my handle. I just don't like it.I like the first Fallout picture a lot, it shrinks down quite well and isn't too cluttered.
"@[=g3,8d]&fbb=-q]/hk%fg"Here's the first two Fallout pics at 350 px.:
I've got some pics from the trailer for that new show Revolution, but it's gonna be tonight before I can post them.
Here's a couple of takes from one shot from the Revolution trailer.
I'm partial to the first picture in post #8.
Panhandling sign glued to hands. Need $5 for solvent. That looks like a jungle city. As in a city actually built in a jungle, rather than just overgrown due to being abandoned decades ago, which is what I think about it. Or maybe it looks like an ancient city. All in all, it's not evocative of the trope.

Check out my fanfiction! The city overrun with vegetation looks pretty and scenic, at least in my eyes. I'm not sure how close it is to this trope. The Fallout pictures are excellent, though. Is there anything wrong with the Idiocracy picture in the OP? Would it make a good image link pic at full size?

"@[=g3,8d]&fbb=-q]/hk%fg"The OP suggestion would be a lot better at full size. As wiki page size, it's a little too cluttered. It works, but not nearly as good as the Fallout ones.
Check out my fanfiction!Bump...any other thoughts?
I'm still going for the first Fallout picture.
"@[=g3,8d]&fbb=-q]/hk%fg"Crowner's hooked.
Votes are going pretty strong towards the Fallout picture. Should we end it here or wait?
"@[=g3,8d]&fbb=-q]/hk%fg"I'd call it now but I can barely keep my eyes open...if there hasn't been a significant change in the ratio come tomorrow morning, I'll take care of it.
It gained a vote last night, so I think we can call it. The new pic's up, potholed, and tagged, and the rest are added to the Image Links page. Locking up.
Crown Description:
Nominations for replacement images:
The image for this trope has a lot of problems. There's a tiny little green textbox in the upper-left corner, that's too small to read, and since it has that distinct coloring I saw in one of Alan Moore's other novels, it's hard to tell what's going on in the picture now that it's all shrunk down. It's by no means a bad image, it's just really messy at that size. I propose this scene from the film Idiocracy, which I think is clearer and has more focus.
