Well, I mostly agree with what a lot of you have said, but I'm here to share a real underrated classic, one few people have played and that most "in the know" normally pass off as an R-Type knockoff.

It's called X-Multiply and you can see a youtube video of it here. One thing I like about this game is that unlike most shmups, the sound effects do not drown out the music. This game's soundtrack is awesome, evoking the horror atmosphere and yet somehow still being adrenaline-pumping.

That's one of the unique things about this game: it's distinctly horror-themed, and features levels, backgrounds and monsters that are clearly inspired by H.R. Giger and are suitably creepy. You're asking "What the hell is that thing?" even as you're blasting it to smithereens, and the game does not let up until the very end.

On your side, you have... tentacles. Oh yeah, the tentacles. Though basically a reworking of the "Force" mechanic from R-Type, the tentacles are unique. They're both extra firepower and shields that you can move into any position, and just contacting them damages most enemies. It's almost a work of art when you see an expert player use his tentacles creatively to mow down hellish forces.

There's only one huge downside to this game...

It's rare. The original arcade game didn't see a wide release, and the only console port is in a compilation called Arcade Gears: Image Fight and X-Multiply (available for both Saturn and Playstation). This is an obscure release and will cost you a pretty penny. For most people, MAME is gonna be your only option.

... But don't worry, this game plays fine with a keyboard ;)

We already have a thread for this.

If anyone in the thread wants to kidnap me, I don't mind. We'd just be in their van drinking Mountain Dew and watching MLP for days on end

Sin And Punishment for wii

got it at walmart for just $10

totally worth it. needs a wiiu sequel where isa & kachi fight the creators & liberate the remaining earths

& Battle Tanx

due to the company going bankrupt, the series never finished. did another company buy the rights? it's a shame to let it go unused!
