They're still around, and apparently they tried to make a sort of comeback in 2023 by reaching out to content creators again, but failed to gain any traction. Safe to say that their peak has long passed.
It doesn't help that the parent company, Galton Voysey, also had another company, Kamikoto Knives—which was selling cheap, Chinese knives made with low-grade steel as high-quality thousand-dollar knives—be outed as also just another scam; neither company is listed in Galton Voysey's website.
Hitokiri in the streets, daishouri in the sheets. There was a time when I was an angry, "anti-SJW" young men who watched the likes of Ben Shapiro. Yes, it's shameful, I have absolutely no excuse whatsoever for my past self.
What is even more shameful...is the fact that me realizing those alt-right speakers were full of shit involved recognizing one of their sponsored products being absolute garbage.
See, like Kamikoto Knives mentioned above, MVMT watches and its derivatives used to be really popular as Youtube sponsors. Unfortunately, I happened to be a massive watch enthusiast who even own a watch repair kit.
So when one of the alt-right speakers started to promote MVMT as some kind of affordable yet high quality watch brand, I was like, what the fuck are you talking about, those are cheap Chinese watches that I could literally buy for 5 dollars!
And it made me realize: What the fuck else were they lying about? The answer is, of course, pretty much everything. XP
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.Advertising that stuff isn't just exclusive to the alt-right. Content creators overall don't do their due diligence to make sure they're sponsored by something legitimate.
If YouTube played Super Smash Bros. (Ultimate in specific)... they'd 90% be a Steve main. Why?
YouTube's algorithm loves Minecraft.
"Some people are damaged. Some people are really damaged. And then... some people are broken."Got a lot of Minecraft recommendations?
Wake me up at your own risk.Something I noticed recently is that YouTube now hides channel names under videos when you're using the search function on the mobile browser. Anyone else have this issue?
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?I’ve just noticed that the site is doing this unless you remember the exact name of the channel but how for the big question: Is it a bug or fincky feature?
You did it! Thanks to you lot using The Power of Friendship I can cause all the mischief I want!I just got a big format update where, while watching videos, the title, description, and comments are in the sidebar, while the thumbnails for suggested videos are arranged beneath the videos. It's weird, laid out more like Youtube Shorts which I don't like, but I think it might be objectively better?
Like, the thumbnails are now bigger and I can see them clearer, and the description and comments just shorten because they're just text.
Yup, the layout changed again.
Ukrainian Red CrossI haven't gotten the new layout so I've just been looking at screenshots people have been posting on r/YouTube.
Shoving the title and description into the corner feels wrong. They could have still placed the video information section where it currently is, and just swapped the comments and recommended videos section. Most importantly, this would provide some visual separation between recommendations and the video you actually clicked on.
I assume the intent is for the larger thumbnails to increase the chances of the viewer clicking on additional videos. It looks visually distracting since they don't seem to want the viewer to focus on the video they're watching.
On desktop, I always run YouTube in theater mode, so I didn't even notice. I must not have received the new layout, though, since even turning it off still gives me the old one.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Ahh so even the knives thing are a scam too? Is Raycon also gonna be next?
Folks have always been ragging on RayCon, but they're not so widespread as EL was in their heyday. A company that really should be dragged through the dirt and trashed is BetterHelp. The fact that they got back on to sponsoring a ton of big names—Anthony Padilla, the TryGuys, Daniel Thrasher, and jacksfilms, to name a few—is really infuriating.
Hitokiri in the streets, daishouri in the sheets.Yeah, even Babish and Good Mythical Morning have had sponsorships from Betterhelp.
I understand there’s probably some contract BS that forces them to do [X] amounts of sponsor plugs in their videos, not that I’ll pretend I understand how that works, and people gotta eat and Blah, Blah, Blah… but that’s no excuse considering how scummy Betterhelp actually is.
I just wish I could reach through the screen and tell them directly ”STOP ACCEPTING SPONSORSHIPS FROM BETTERHELP!” Surely, there must be some other therapy platform to promote?!

My AO3 profile. Let sleeping cats lie and be cute and calming.Unfortunately, high-quality sponsors don't materialize for asking. I like the way Second Wind is doing it: putting out content with good sponsor plugs and then saying, "Hey, our rates are good and we only want good sponsors. Email us here."
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"On desktop, I always run You Tube in theater mode, so I didn't even notice. I must not have received the new layout, though, since even turning it off still gives me the old one.
In theater mode, the two sections are still switched. The suggested video thumbnails take up the left 2/3rds of the screen and the title, description, and comments take up the right 1/3rd.
What's the controversy with Better Help?
I love animation, TV, movies, YOU NAME IT!Long story short, they were selling the personal data they'd have been provided with as a therapy service.
SoundCloudThey're also notorious for providing extremely inconsistent service.
Hitokiri in the streets, daishouri in the sheets.More like Worse Help amirite
"That we continue to persist at all is a testament to our faith in one another."I keep misreading 'sponsorships' and the like as Spongebob...
The Protomen enhanced my life.Oh boy...taking people's private information and trying to make money off of it is never a good thing....
I love animation, TV, movies, YOU NAME IT!
Nah they are still around.
