We're two steps away from even beginning production, so it's really too early to care
Three words: Speak for yourself.
Jonah FalconI'm pretty sure he/she was speaking for his/herself.
Still, this is interesting*. But wasn't Avellone working on another Kickstarter project?
"It's so hard to be humble, knowing how great I am."It's a very minor section of the original interview from games industry that discussed Wasteland 2, kickstarter and South Park- which were far more interesting reads imo.
He's already asked about this stuff to fans (even holding a poll on his blog) and generally talked about an Obsidian kickstarter coming soon-ish.
We aren't likely to get any news for at least another 3 months since that's when design for WL 2 is expected to end and Avellone will have free time to go onto other projects.
The only thing is... I'm sure The Nameless One's story was pretty much definitively concluded, regardless of ending.
Jonah FalconFrom the way he puts it, it's not necessarily gonna be a Planescape game, but rather one inspired by the overall themes of Planescape.
Would buy.
Somehow you know that the time is right.I'm a big fan of Avellone and Planescape Torment is one of my favorite games ever and yet I'm NOT excited about that.
I don't know why tough, I'd much rather see Alpha Protocol 2 than a Planescape spiritual successor. I also get the feeling that this kickstarter won't get enough money for the project but still I'd like to play that if it gets good scores when it's released.
TBF though I felt the same way when wasteland 2 was announced but now I'm excited for the games and I WASN'T a big fan of the first wasteland so I'm pretty sure I would change how I feel about the game when or if it gets done.
Now I just hope they keep the things that made Planescape awesome(deep storyline and character interaction, stats that actually have an impact on the storyline, weirdness) but with a better combat system. Of course, combat shouldn't be the focus of the game but it should be fun, and deadly too. Maybe have few enemies and few fights with groups larger than 3 or 4 bad guys, but also make ALL of them dangerous.
:)Keep the setting and the characterization, kneecap the ruleset. Then I would think about buying it.
Make it possible to go through the whole game without ever entering combat. Diplomacy pacifist run!
Somehow you know that the time is right. That was the main draw of the game, in my opinion: arguing people to death.
Alpha Protocol 2 would be a huge, huge budget. With a CRPG, people are even satisfied by tile-set graphics.
Jonah FalconAlright. Screw South Park, I want Planescape Torment 2. Look, I'm sure the south park RPG with be funny and all, but I want more of the depth of character and story that Avellone's famous for. He's really the only developer in the industry who can make me just sit there and agonize over a choice in a video game.
I know, I wasn't expecting a kickstarter for AP 2 or anything, just a sequel from obsidian
:)
Planescape Torment followup - Chris Avellone considering it for Kickstarter - it would be a D&D-less Spiritual Successor.
