Justice Avengers: Dawn over New York

Booster sighed, rubbing his temple with his free hand. Of course Osborne had their hands all over this. It couldn't have been that easy.

"You'll forgive me if being around the energy-absorbing guy makes me twitchy," Power Girl replied to Gold with a bit more harshness in her tone than she probably intended. She stopped tossing the manhole cover in her free hand, but she didn't let go of it yet.

The mention of Osborn and his company afterward managed to break through the blonde's dour mood, and her thoughts drifted back to their last encounter with Rudy. "You mean Osborn was the one who told the purple people eater here to attack Ryder's show several months back?" Now she was wondering what, exactly, a business mogul could possibly gain from doing such a stunt.

Gold listened to Parasite with interest, cataloguing this new information. If the assailant’s addiction was severe enough, they could use it for leverage when he regained consciousness.

Speaking of which… “Booster. Could you please take the other one and contain him with a lamppost?” A pair of tendrils positioned themselves in front of her and mimed a bending motion to get her point across. Her own tethers would prove insufficient in the long run, and she was reluctant to expose herself to the red dust. This also had the added benefit of removing Booster’s foot from Rudy’s face. “Remember that he is as strong as you. Try and gauge how many posts it would take to contain yourself.”

She glanced back as Power Girl made her comment. “It’s certainly possible.” Gold said, before looking back to Rudy. “Well?”

Booster rolled his eyes when Gold made the bending motion. Like he needed to be handheld through every step, just because he dropped the Zombie one time. He took his foot off the Zombie and grabbed a lamp post, ripping it out of the ground and zapping the wires to prevent getting electrocuted. He wrapped the lamp post around the zombie. Then, he used the repulsor beams from his hands to weld the post into a solid steel lump.

"Let's see how that does."

Rocket turned to Mary when she spoke.. He had a thoughtful, ponderous expression, thinking how to say his next words. "Your belief is valid," the raccoon said. "People can change, but it is up to each of them individually to decide whether its for better or for worse, though most of the time positive change comes much harder. For many, the chance is still there. But for a few, its not possible, and the only to know definitely is if they prove to you that they cannot change.

"Still though, believing that someone can change don't give you the excuse to take whatever punches they dish out," he continued. "When it comes to villains, if talkin' them down fails or is never an option to begin with, resort to violence. Painful violence if necessary. As long as you don't kill them, there is the chance they will learn from it, and use those experiences to reform."

Rogue was unusually quiet when the police, freed from their spell, came in.

"Can we leave?" Rogue asked quietly to Rocket and Mary. "I don't wanna be anywhere near that mask or that creep."

Squirrel Girl shook her head at Mary. "I wouldn't know...Back where I come from, you knew where everyone stood. The good guys were always the good guys, and the bad guys were always the bad guys. The only similarity was that we all wore colorful tights. It's been weird to think that someone good could...turn so evil. It's hard."

Rocket nodded at Squirrel Girl's observation.

A beat.

"Roight then, let's move on," the raccoon said, leaving the room for the police to guard. "De Wolff, anywhere else in the building we need to check out?" he asked the detective through his comms.

"Thanks, Rocket..." Rogue said, patting the raccoon on the head, knowing that her powers wouldn't work on him. Rogue then found and put on her gloves again. "If it weren't for ya help, I wouldn't have been able to fight him off."

"That mask caused me to feel..." Rogue blushed profusely at the thought from embarrassment.

"Don't mention it," Rocket said to Rogue. "And don't think about it until after we're done here."

"Hey, I wasn't sent to attack the show, I was j..." Rudy paused, and scrambled backwards. "...wait...wait wait no no no no no. I can't tell you any more, what if Osborn finds out? What if he sends more super-creeps to do god-knows-what to me?"

"Cassidy was the main issue, but there are still some doctors and innocent patients holed up in the building," responded DeWolff. "What we've heard indicates that they're mostly holed up at the very back of the building. Get them out, and then we can talk about some of the escapees we know of."

DeWolff pocketed the walkie talkie, and went to a group of lower level officers to discuss the clean-up status. The only thoughts on her mind were on getting this shit cleaned up at last, making sure everybody was doing their jobs, and ignoring the strange feeling that she was being watched...

At least one guard noticed Raze come in and seat himself at the bar. "'ey, 'ey, fellas! Look who made it out alive! It's, ah...it's that guy! That guy's all right, everybody!"

The rest of the group cheered, chugged, and went back to talking

"Got it," Rocket said before hanging up. "Good news is the worst really is over," he told the other heroes. "With Cassidy neutralized, all that's left to find the rest of the staff and non-violent patients and escort them out. Let's go!"

"Jackson," Raze growled, grabbing his drink and chugging it down. "Freaking muties. I was having the best day of my life. Absolutely nothing was going wrong! Then one of them decides to be an idiot and it all goes to hell." He grumbled. "At least I hit a few people on the way out." He chuckled, raising his glass. "Am I right, fellas?"

"right, yeah" said Question "Chloe! Would you come here to help me with Tony?" he said attempting to prop him up in order to carry him.

Power Girl seemingly ignored Rudy's sudden fearfulness, instead taking her time to walk back over to the open manhole and drop the cover back into it with a loud clang. "Well, since you guys seem to have this under control," she said while glancing at Booster, Gold, and... the white-cloaked man and the small woman flying alongside them, her eyebrow rising at the sight of the other two she didn't recognize, "I think I'll see if the police need more help containing that jailbreak."

She began to walk past them towards the prison^* taking care to keep her distance from Rudy, of course, then stopped and paused. "Unless you want to come with?" she asked them, glancing back at the group.

"Thank you,I promise not to hesitate so much next time." Mary told Rocket relieved. Stronger than th wisdom of Solommon was a shoulder to lean on.

Yeah I miss those times when you could just watch a cartoon and everything was so simpler" Mary replied to Squirrel Girl as she sighted. "But one thing I can always tell is who are my friends..."

and as soon a s she said that she went to Hug Squirrel Girl and Rocket. However she didn't dare to hug Rogue due to her powers and simply friend smiled towards her and said "and you too!"

"Right behind you!" She told Rocket as Mary followed her fellow heroes.

Booster shrugged, looking over Rudy, Attack Dog, and the Zombie. "I think there's a couple calls we need to make, but...sure. I mean, it was kind of our mess, anyway." He turned his attention back to Rudy, putting his hands up nonthreateningly. "Hey, Rudy, it's all right. We'll get some SHIELD people to keep an eye on you. We'll keep you somewhere Norman can't get to you. But you're gonna have to work with me, all right?"

"Oh! Oh, count me in!" Wasp replied excitedly, zipping a bit closer to the heroine's side. An invitation to fight crime with Power Girl? How could she resist? She turned back towards Booster and snorted, shrugging. "Hey, it wasn't our fault the power suddenly shut off. They're lucky we were around."

Chloe

Chloe nodded in agreement to the question "Sure. I just hope he isn't too heavy for me". She said while she tried to help the question carry him.

Power Girl's eyes narrowed at Booster's mention of the jailbreak being 'kind of their mess'. She immediately shook her head as if to clear it, though, and turned to the small woman. "And you are...?" she asked, not giving out a nickname to the newcomer she had just met this time around.

For a moment, Storm stared into space, eyes strained, and expression unsettled. Her mind ached as it tried to reconcile the good times she'd had with the logic and order of the master race. Unfortunately, the doctrine was beginning speak louder. Don't be weighed down by your past, it said, not by your former weakness. You are not like the rest of your race, and don't need to listen to their lies anymore. They are using sentiment against you, to guilt trip you into making a terrible mistake. You can still set things right again. You just need to listen to someone you can trust...

Rudy looked at Booster, then looked at the downed bodies in thought.

"...all right," he said. "Osborn didn't send me down 'cause of the talk show. All that mattered to him was there'd be loads o' mutants down there, and there'd be some confusion for me to slip by in. My assignment...hell, my entire job description, was to find some mutants, drain their essence, and then get my blood sampled by a guy with a needle. Then it could go down to the gene labs, and they could do all kinds of tests on the sampled DNA. No lab rat people, no culpability."

The rest of the group cheered, chugged, and went back to talking.

One of the guys rolled his eyes. "Hey guys, your flies are all undone!"

The guy laughed. "Fuckin' idiots. Anyway, Jackson, Jacksh, Jackie buddy...Think you're being a little unfair there. The mutants weren't totally to blame...the other half of the spastic scum had a part in it too, y'know what I'm sayin'?"

As the merry crew headed to the far back, they began to hear the sounds of someone speaking very loudly and boldly.

"Gentle souls! Thou art absolved! Thine torment has not gone unnoticed, and thine calls have reached to mine heavens above, to the very heights of Olympus itself! But fear you not, for I am come, and with me I bring the purity of the divine, and the power to vanquish those that would torment and ensnare the sensitivities of mortal folk!"

"You're a bit too late there, mate, we already handled it," Rocket replied to the new, mysterious voice, clearly unimpressed. While assuming the owner of said voice was relatively harmless, his hand still hovered above his holster.

Alley

Moon Knight crossed his arms. "I got a deal for you, Rudy. You agree to testify in court, like originally planned, and you'll get to be normal again. If you even *blink* the wrong way from now on, I'm going to turn you right back over to Osborn, and you can think about how stupid you are when he's cutting you open on a table."

Moon Knight turned away from Rudy Jones in visible disgust.

"I'm going to go over to Ravencroft, too. If we're lucky, we might find the miserable bastard who screwed everything up."

"No, no, no!" Megan visibly strained as the voice of the doctrine tried to use her own images against her. Gritting her teeth, she attempted to summon up mental images of the people that Storm trusted. "Look at me, look at your friends! We don't want to harm you, and we'd never, never lie to you. Just listen to us, we just want to help you break through this cloud of hatred!" She mentally begged Storm, as she put the images to make the same requests, all in the fashion of the people they represented.
