I'm here. Sorry I haven't posted lately, but I've been really busy and there hasn't really been anything for Jaime to do aside from help take care of the city at the moment. My schedule cleared up a little bit today though so I am perfectly free.smile

I love the mood shift in the last two posts. Miss Martian is crying out in agony and Darwin is off starting this grand adventure like 10 feet away.

I'll admit that I have a predilection for all things binary, be they split personalities, two opposites meeting up, or the beloved Mood Whiplash.

She's got the same problem as the The Ventriloquist, where her split personality manifests in an inanimate object, in this case, her Rorschach mask and unitard. What can I say, I've always had a thing for split personalities, hence, Man-Bat.

@God of Awesome: How does he know the sewer dwelling mutants call themselves Morlocks? I don't think that was ever mentioned.

I'm here! Just kind of swamped. I'll try and get a post up soon.

Slendid, I don't think Storm is going to react well to Xorn's attempts to play psychologist. Just, uh, warning you.

I was about to ask the same thing as Ud. I'm going to respond to it anyway, but please replace it with something like "Welp, sewer monsters!"

Hope I'm not being too Grimdark and soppy here. Though I do think Megan & M'gann could use just a little speech on how ugly things get for crime fighters.

You know, I really want Sandman and Rorschach to meet up now. Rorschach feels kind of like what Wesleigh could have become if she hadn't been as lucky as she is.

Sandman got it easy. Now mind you, I'm really not the kind of person to say this kind of thing, but bear with me here... She was caught by a mobster, and apparently was stripped down to her underwear, during a prison breakout, and she not only lived, nobody took advantage of her in that span of time.

To be fair, the name 'Morlock' actually derives itself from the underground dwellers in The Time Machine, a classic HG Wells science fiction. Darwin, being well read enough to pick the name Darwin as his mutant name, is likely referencing that group, which is where Callisto, our sewer dwelling mutant group's founder, had gotten the name.

Cannonball, resident sci-fi fan, would've probably done the same thing. Basically, the name 'Morlock' did not come from a vacuum and is meant to be a reference to the classic story.

Also, I'm back home now. We've got a new car and I will post momentarily.

I always wondered why comic book characters never seem to care about how much bacteria and pollution is inside a sewer. Considering all the fighting and stuff they tend to do down there, I'm surprised they never get any infections or diseases.

Well, technically they are supposed to be storm drains. However, this is the difference between comic book logic and real world logic.

Somehow I haven't seen a lot of superheros in sewers. I'm sure I've seen more, but the only ones I remember are the Bat-clan and Spider-Man. Mostly Spider-Man who, to be fair, get's sick all the time. That's when you know things are about to get worse for him again.

I assumed there was a persistent rumor of the Morlock's existence but if not I may go with Game Guru's explanation or a retcon.

Also, Darwin does look like the kind of fellow that'd fit right in with Morlocks.

The X-Men have hung out in the sewers, but then canon makes it a regular plot point that mutants generally have a much better immune system than baseline humans. Mutants are resistant to the Transmode Virus and the sentient bacteria Sublime. The biggest cause of death due to infections among mutants was the Legacy Virus, something that was was initially created by Apocalypse in the 40th century. Old baseline humanity sicknesses are considered old hat for mutants.

My explanation had Rogue be vague on the subject and have her write it off as some anti-mutant propaganda. It was something about District X that she should be aware of, but I didn't want Rogue to consider it true. I also have an explanation planned if the Cafe des Artiste is mentioned so as to avoid Rogue being aware of Mystique, namely that Rogue never goes there.

[up]If the whole immunity thing does get applied to mutants in this RP, there is only one virus I know that can actually kill off mutants with disturbing ease: An actual living virus inducted into the Sinestro Corp. Of course, that would be way, way further down the line.......

To be fair, Rocket does have plenty of facts that the theory would be sound. The news report that opened out the day theorized it was a mutant who caused it, so that's what the police would know. Stark was able to determine it was a mutant energy signature. Either talking to the police or talking to JARVIS would've gotten him that information. He also knows that the mutant's powers involve shutting off the powers of other mutants, so the conclusion that he took it willingly is at least a somewhat logical leap with the alternative being down to random chance.

In addition, he's not completely right as the X-Gene, which only deals with mutants in Marvel, would likely only be a subset of the Metagene, which deals with any non-alien, non-magic-using person with superpowers.

However, Rocket ought to at least acknowledge that it could've been random chance even if he doesn't believe it.

Renée isn't taking him too seriously, but hey.

I kind of find it ironic that Rocket Raccoon is a mercenary who's in tight with the cops. Raccoons are like little fat burglars wearing masks who steal garbage and break into peoples houses. Sly Cooper comes to mind.
