Adeptus Evangelion: Signups and Interest Check

Hello and welcome to my first game of Adeptus Evangelion! I've read quite a bit about it on both Tropes and 1d4Chan and was really interested in running my own game!

For those of you who haven't heard of Ad Eva, it's basically a hack of Dark Heresy—that is, it uses the same system and rules for a lot of things—and redesigns it into a Neon Genesis Evangelion RPG system. It's very detailed and brutal, but is fairly easy to run once you learn the rules. We will be playing V2; you can download it off the 1d4chan link above. Additionally, the game will be played over Maptools b86; connecting to the server will require you to have Hamachi, the Unmanaged version. Skype is useful, but not mandatory.

For those of you who haven't heard of NGE, it's one of the first Mecha deconstructions, just read the trope page and you'll be fine. Hell, might not even want to read about it to make it more surprising!

I plan for this campaign to be a little more action-oriented and hopeful; winning is definitely possible, even against both the angels and SEELE. Not that you're going to get off easy or anything, it's not like I'll necessarily shy away from Zeruel-scale battles. Since most campaigns I've seen put some twist on the setting, mine is that our characters live within Moscow-5, situated on the southern coastline of Russia. Ad Eva's official lore states that Russia got off the lightest from Second Impact, and so NERV decided to deploy on the coast to get further support as a straight philanthropic as well as alien-slaying venture. Your characters certainly don't have to be born in Russia, though they have since been relocated for reasons undisclosed to them. You can find the map we will use here, courtesy of Chubert.

While it'd be fine for you to set up your characters as straight lists of stats, I'd recommend you scan in the character sheet as I have done and just upload it to Imgur, or edit snapshots of the pdfs and put those on imgur.

I was also considering another addition, in that to keep things fresh I'd bring on an Angel GM to play each new Angel, maybe even designed by their controller. Just post about any interest in it and we'll work something out.

And our heroes! I'll keep it open for five more people including the Operations Director. I'd prefer to have a pretty diverse set of career paths, but I'd be fine with two of a class as well. Please remember that all Evas begin play with a Pallet Gun, a Prog Knife, a Wing Loadout—Knife Structural Upgrade, and 400 Experience Points. Signups are now closed.

Thinking of using a SAR (Search and Rescue) specialist. I was thinking of a NERV Defense Force soldier, but then again...

You're cool with not being a pilot, and not necessarily involved in all the Angel battles? It'd be cool to have someone who could actually gun down the crack commandos in case we ever go full Eo E here.

Nah. But potentially going EOE sounds... interesting.

Just sayin', we kinda need an Operations Director (the Misato). I've got a Manufactured Berserker written up, and other Eva pilots are welcome, but that OD spot needs filling.

Taco actually talked me into being the Operations Director, But It'll be a bit before I have consistant enough internet to stream or use maptools, neither of which I can do on my phone, which is my only regular internet access at the moment.. I guess it depends when sessions are, really. Typically Saturday nights I'm at my older sister's which has internet, so I can do it then.

I ship it.

If this signup is still open, I'd be interested in playing. I have a concept in mind for an Operations Director and a Prodigy AT Tactician, so let me know.

I think you should go for Operations Director, since not many people exactly clamor for that spot. Do it to it dude!

Looks like this team needs a Pointman. If I may, I feel more than apt to fill the position with my full-bodied inquiry. With two potential ODs, a registered Skirmisher, and intent for a Berserker and AT, it's my duty to fill in SOMETHING.

That said, if Alman is going for OD, I'll take the AT Tech spot.

EDIT: Except I don't have a working printer/scanner, nor patience enough to download the gamut to just make the .pdf available to edit. Adieu, remember me. I might find a way yet!

I am going for OD, as per the GM's suggestion.

Also, I myself managed to cut out the middleman by using the snapshot tool to copy the PDF pages, and edited them in paint with the text tool and some cut and paste. (Mostly because my handwriting is terrible.)

It may very well solve your printer problem.

So I did what Alman did and typed up the character sheet in paint. It looks extremely shitty and unaligned, but at least it's legible.

Also, this is my first time ever playing a pen and paper game. I am a complete virgin at this kind of thing. There might be obvious fuckups.

I have now uploaded a map of Moscow-5, in Tactical and Annotated format.

Once we have an Operations Director set up, you should download the image and place the structures listed in the upper left of the Annotated version onto the maps.

[up][up] Yeah, it's not the most elegant solution, I know. But it does save time, and the picture quality isn't going to be that much worse than printing it and scanning it back in. Photocopy of a photocopy, as it is.

[up] What's the scale on this map? Is it 1:1 Eva-scale? Or do the Evas require more than one movement point to get through a square as defined by the Tactical map?

Also, character sheet.

Instead of uploading the third page of the character sheet, you uploaded the first page twice.

I am also not sure when second impact occurred in this universe, but your character sheet and my character sheet are incompatible, because Noel is younger than Able, which is impossible. ]

I'm also not sure how relevant or important this is, but the Impact Survivor has a piss-poor synch ratio, and synch ratio is the basis for how much A.T. shit the A.T. Technician can pull.

Second Impact, in-canon, occurred in 2000. It's currently 2017 by Able and Dean's sheets, 3-4 years after the original Eva would've taken place.

Also yeah, each gridspace represents one movement square on the tactical map. I realized about halfway through that this actually might make the city sort of tiny, but considering how abstracted the game is and how we're in Russia, I can just handwave it away as the Evas being slightly larger and therefore occupying more than a 1 dm square.

Alman is approved, putting him in the OP now.

And yeah, Ragna, if you're fine with being an Impact Survivor but also an AT Tactician that's fine, just know that you're 1) undeniably gimped, and 2) going to have to change your age to reflect that it's 2017.

Cool. I also edited the OP to open up one more slot, figuring that five Evas is the max we could do.

Wait, it's 2017 here?

Whoops. Did not notice that. That makes Alman Nocturne 31 instead of 29. I'll get that fixed and re-uploaded.

Also, I can't help but notice I'm the only character who knows Russian. Am I wasting my EXP on that?

As for the map, I'll have that done later today, I hope. I'm going to be gone for most of the weekend, but I'll have internet access.

EDIT: Cool. Just needed to check on the Russian thing.

You did not waste EXP on Russian. Most of the military officials speak Russian, As do most older civvies and lower level NERV workers, so if you ever need to talk privately to someone infront of the pilots or calm down a panicking Bridge Bunny or Totally-Not-Ayoba, you've got it.

Noel is approved, because I'm willing to ignore that she's still one year off from 2017! That means we have 2 slots left!
