Misused: Creators Pet

Robin is listed as a Creator's Pet in YMMV.Teen Titans Go. Considering that he's The Leader and his teammates don't always have nice things to say about him (and he even gets mocked since the show is a comedy), he fails the undue Character Focus and Character Shilling criteria.

Agreed. The trope cannot apply to the main character.

If we want to be super picky, he's not the main character since the show is an ensemble comedy with no singular designated protagonist. But his status as team leader puts him in a position where he is expected to get some focus anyway.

Even if he wasn't, the show shits on him enough that he still fails the Character Shilling part.

I don't watch the show(for many reasons that include not having cable in the first place) but doesn't the show, from what I've heard, shit on ALL of them?

....how would that interact with Creator's Pet anyways, when a show goes for cringe comedy by turning all the characters into a Chew Toy and/or unlikable douchebags?

Probably makes it very hard for the trope to apply at all. Creator's Pet usually stems from the creator wanting her creation to be better, much like you want the sports team you cheer on to be better than other teams. However, a lot of creators (myself included) find that they put their favourite characters through more crap than other characters. That usually avoids some implications for Creator's Pet, Character Shilling in particular.

YMMV.Project M lists Knuckles the Echidna as a Creator's Pet. Was there any record of Knuckles being disliked by the Super Smash Bros. and Project M communities? Because if there isn't, then this should be Creator's Favorite.

Well, Knuckles wasn't in any of the Smash Bros games outside of some brief cameos, so there isn't much opinion of him amongst the fanbase. Besides, he was never implemented in the game anyway, so it's a moot point.

So change it to Creator's Favorite?

Seems reasonable.

Considering that he apparently didn't even make it into the mod, I question how he can qualify for Creator's Favorite.

By that logic, any game that goes through production issues and is indefinitely delayed is a game the creators don't like.

The example that was deleted claimed they apparently liked him, and unless it's straight up lying, that's enough. Do you have a reason to believe it's lying?

There's an Edit War on a sub-page for the YMMV of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic regarding Starlight Glimmer as a Creator's Pet. I haven't watched the latest seasons due to my extremely busy schedule, so I'm not sure if she qualifies or not (despite me impulsively saying she's a Creator's Pet without even watching the show).

The example as it is on the page is very complainy. She's not listed as The Scrappy, and we don't deal with speculations (a.k.a. accusations) of the creators loving the character above others.

I can't say she's a Creator's Pet, but she is poorly handled. It should be cut regardless since she's not The Scrappy.

• Creator's Pet: Megan being a massive Jerkass who made her brothers miserable for no reason yet got away with everything and infuriated the fandom to the point they legitimately wanted her killed off. For some reason, Dan was completely unaware of this.

• Can a Base-Breaking Character qualify for this?
• How much character focus and shilling qualifies one as a Pet without official word on favoritism?

I want to add an note saying it was officially decided if she does or does not qualify to put an end to this. How many votes for/against does one need on this forum to "officially" be decided if they are a Creator's Pet or not?

At this point, we may need a lock due to misuse if multiple users are doing this. I've seen three so far going through the history; Teras Ode, JJHIL 325, and Peridonyx.

She doesn't qualify. She needs to hit all four points. No exceptions.

Removed Starlight and added a note referencing this thread and saying those that want to add her should take their arguments here.

Yes. Any potholes to this trope follow the same requirements as examples on the page. Assuming the pothole is about a character, that is, and not included in some explanation.

Will be bringing back Starlight Glimmer to the Creator's pet for the following reasons.

- She's heavily disliked by a good portion of the fanbase.

- Mike Vogel, writer of the show responsible for four of her episodes, stated more than once at particularly favoring her. Follow the next two links for the source:

- She's taken more prominence since her introduction than any other supporting character, to the point where she overshadows the long established protagonists of the series.

- She's shrilled a lot by other characters, specially Twilight.

So by all four points, she totally fits the criteria.

I'd wait to get some approval from others before adding her back.

I'll give you 3 for 4 points covered. However, I question if "good portion of the fanbase" is sufficient, since she has and equally vehement share of fans and this trope requires they be widely hated for it. Does anyone have anything objective about her popularity, like a poll?

I also question if she's still a supporting character by this a point, as opposed to a main one who would thus be exempt. Arguments for/against her still being supporting?

Should her entry be re-removed until her re-addition is ''approved" (voted on) by this thread?

Correct; contested entries should stay removed till the discussion has reached a proper consensus.
