OH IT WAS IN THE ROLE PLAYING DISCUSSION FORUM.

I just looked into the role playing forum for something like that and found nothing.

Because like, there is where the role playing happens.

Really, it should be in that forum too.

That stuff looks simple enough and I'm pretty sure I can abide by that.

Yeah it's not hard. Most of R Ping rules generally boil down to don't be a jerk.

I thought there was a crowner up but I guess not. The big issue right now is selecting an RP forum moderator.

I could have sworn there was a crowner with some basic rules on it, though.

I'm sure I'll enjoy whatever you write, Aela, I just have my set of preferences. The text you linked wasn't bad; I got a good feel for the character's personality and there were lots of little details that showed it off. Maybe it could have reeled it back in a bit on the mountain of details. I prefer short, snappy back and forths between players instead of long, Purple Prose posts. Of course, I love dialogue and I love television because of it, so I like when R Ps emulate that more than novels.

Ah, we have a 250 word minumum on that board, and most of us greatly exceed it. Basically the majority of people there prefer loooooong descriptive posts.

One of my character sheets there is near ten thousand words long.

It was much higher quality than what many of the R Pers here post. It'd be great if you could RP with similar quality to that, you'd already be above most standard R Pers on these forums.

When posts get that long there is almost always a bunch of filler involved. Lots of details that mean nothing, and if they do have a meaning, the author probably trampled over it by trying to show how clever they are. Brevity is the soul of wit and all.

Plus it almost always takes away agency from the other players, like they all are waiting patiently to get their own turn with their character. When posts get that long the world feels stale and lifeless. What are the other characters doing in this moment that goes on forever, taking a nap? It makes it so everyone just ends up doing their own thing instead of working off of one another.

Regardless, that really captures a lot of what I hate about RP's. Very few things are left as subtext. These players think that they have to lay out exactly what is going on in a character's head. EVERYTHING. I hope that we stay away from that. Show a character's thoughts through their actions and words. Inner monologues are cheap ways to basically inform the other players about what their next actions should be, how their relationships should function.
Oh by the way Ice, can we consider enforcing this as rule for this RP?

I would agree showing instead of telling would be much more entertaining.

You can write quite a lot about a short time. Also we're fairly lax on the description of time, so one post can happen during the other post, basically. I'm not an elitist about it, it's just the way that board is set up, and while I prefer it it doesn't mean I believe it's the only way to write. In addition we all talk a fairly lot on a chatbox so we won't write too much happening. It does slow the pace of the RP, but the source material also tends to be written in a long sort of way, so it's faithful to that as well.

And I didnt say the backstory was ten thousand words, just the profile, the backstory was about seven thousand (Tristan from Arthurian myth), and I thought it kept from repeating fairly decently.

EDIT: [up] That rule would probably keep me from playing. Also would be ridiculously wierd to enforce. Exploring a character's inner conflicts and failings is something I love to do.

10,000 words about the same person still strikes me as being pretty hefty.

Man if I could write that much about myself, I'd never have problems talking about myself ever again.

[up] Ah sorry, I did not think about that.

I just felt like giving a bunch of chance for headcanon would make things engaging to everyone in their own way. Also like real-life.

But such a thing does need a basis to inspire.

Also, it'd be like, unfair to you, obviously.

Well there are some places where inner monologues work. Like, if Orianna wanted to ruminate on how cute something is and what she might do to it. The point is that it should be an anecdote that shows how the character thinks instead of bluntly saying "Orianna is a robot and that is weird, amirite guys?" When you start using inner monologues to flat out state a character's traits or what they think about other people and WHY they think that, it sort of steals the potential entertainment derived from dialogue.

Oh, that's just stupid writing. I don't ever sidetrack in the middle of trystan and say

'HEY GUYS TRYSTAN IS PRETTY SURE FATE IS GOING TO SCREW HIM AGAIN' Trystan just ruminates on fate, and his previous dissapointments. But he is designed as a brooding character instead of say one of my other ones (Zzzzz, I play 16 characters right now), who is basically possessed by battle lust.

But I disagree about their thought process on other people. I, for one, definitely try to clarify in my own head what I dislike about someone, if I dislike them. Especially if I still have to deal with them.

EDIT: I'll try not to subject you to too long of posts though, Blue.

Well so far we only have a few characters, all of vastly different places of origin and political levels. It'd take a lot of work to get this thing rolling. Give it some time.

Aela, please, just play however you are most comfortable. If I tried to force your round hole into my square peg it would end up losing all of its corner-y round-y flavor bits. And just because I'm playing Orianna I know I will end up with lots of weird posts. I can see her being very up front, saying exactly what is on her mind, but exploring her thought processes will probably be a lot of fun too.

I think you're wording that the opposite way you should.

Also it sounds like refusing a come-on, but this is me thinking this.

How I feel most comfortable is making sure that everyone reads what I write instead of skipping it XD (When they are R Ping with me.) Besides, I'd feel super awkward if I was the only person writing long. Not only that but since I like to think of myself as a person who likes writing, it might be a good experience~ I mean my fight scenes with one attack tend to hit like 800 words so maybe I should at least try to learn some brevity.

The only posts I skip are people who post stuff in really annoying/impossible to read colours, and I don't think you can do that here~

So, so far we have:

2 residents of Bandle City (Rumble and Wiggly)

1 Demacian (Shyvana's sex friend)

1 Noxian (Swain)

2 Piltovians (Orianna and Jayce)

1 citizen of Freljord (Lissandra)

1 Ionian (Akali is being played by Blonde but hasn't submitted her whatever thing)

and wherever the hell Orange Spider's character is from

So it probably will be rather difficult and time consuming for Ice to piece all of these together. I don't even know if Swain is available as a PC, although Ice hasn't said differently. It will definitely be hard to pull off without any other Noxians thrown into the mix.

cyberpunk's ancient history, steampunk is way overdone, dieselpunk is where its at

so basically piltover when the 30s hit, yeah

I actually believe it is possible to do colours for your forum text.

I naturally have no idea how to, though.

[up][up][up][up] There's also the fact that Swain is a champion in complete control of one of the two major powers of Runeterra and the others are... considerably less politically powerful. Lissandra's up there, but otherwise he's kinda an odd fit with the rest considering he's one of the most important men in Runeterra.

If it's a serious problem, Noxian cow is coming your way.

You can change colors indeed, like this.

Or this.

Write it like => [[orange: this]] except orange isn't a color they can show, so this doesn't actually work.

They only have a few primary colors I think.

Well then a warning if you make your text like cream I'm going to probably skip over it unless you talk directly to me, in which case I'll just highlight it.
