What is wrong here. Let's see:

  • There is no description. Absolutely none. It's only a bunch of tropes.
  • The indentation and natter are terrible.
  • It is basically a stub.

Is there something we can do to work on this, or is it cutlist material? I have no doubts we should trope Korean Mythology, but is there anything of value here?

Well...tropes but no overall description is much closer to what we want than overall description and no tropes. And the tropes certainly aren't X Just X, and could be de-natterfied.

On the other hand, there's only two, which fails Three Rules Of Three. I can supply a third (Kitsune, which the Koreans call "Gumiho", and consider to be an evil spirit, unlike the Japanese Trickster version), but that's about as far as I can get.

I'd rather see it salvaged than cut, but I'm not sure I can offer sufficient justification. Maybe a round through YKTTW would do it good? Netflix has been offering a lot of Korean shows lately, so some people might have picked things up. (I got the Gumiho thing from watching a couple of episodes of My Girlfriend Is A Nine Tailed Fox.)

Yea, I'm sure SOMEONE knows something. There's a little manhwa out in America too.

Is this supposed to be a works article or a Useful Notes article?

[up]I'm not sure it's possible to say, given its present state. What it should be is a separate question. Most of our X Mythology pages (Celtic Mythology, Classical Mythology, etc.) do seem to be indexed as Useful Notes, though I think a strong argument could be made that they're works as well.

I imagined it as a useful note.

Mythology can be seem as a 'work' as well, though. Though, I guess, it is the individual stories that are 'works', not the mythology itself.

Hi! As the creator of this page, first I would like to thank you for shedding a light of recogniton on this topic[lol] Yes, I know that currently this page has very little to offer for its name. Actually there are TONS of things I would like to write about Korean mythology, including notable deities(King yeom-ra, samshin-halmang(goddess of life and babies), etc), notable humans(kang-lim doryeong, bari-daegi, etc), other supernatural entities(jeoseung-saja)and yogwe(korean monsters, equivalent of the japanese Youkai). And I sort of have a clear outline(including comparison with Japanese and Chinese mythology). But as English is not my first language, and my current position as a student, I really don't have a lot of time to put into this right now. I can only write about it in weekends and in my free time(not a lot). Plus, I only started editting and learning tropes recently, so there's still a long way to go.

In fact, I sort of made this page so as to attract attention of other tropers who know korean mythology, but didn't bothered to write about it(if you do know, please feel free to contribute). I'm currently looking for English versions of Korean mythology, seeking attention of the Korean users, and gathering and translating korean datas. So please wait for now, and I promise to fill this page with lots of infos, and show that Korean Mythology has lots of interesting stories and heroes. And again, thanks for your attrention on this page, people! suggestions are always welcome! [lol]

Hi, welcome to the forums and Trope Repair Shop!

The problem is that stub pages usually end up in the Cut List, because of lack of content.

This page needs polishing. Can you write a basic description akin to Greek Mythology or Norse Mythology? That will solve 80% of the issues.

just finished writing about notable gods and humans. It took me 4 hours.. still, there are still loads more -including ghosts, monsters, and yet more human heroes - to write.(not to mention adding tropes) Please wait for now! By the way, does the introduction seem too long? I tried to write it in the concise way possible, but might have overshooted it.. sad

—- If you are learning Korean, and intrigued in Korean mythology, please watch webtoon {{http://comic.naver.com/webtoon/list.nhn?titleId=119877 Shingwa-Hamkke}}(신과 함께. 'Together with God'). This popular, prize-winning webtoon offers well-summarized overview of the Korean Traditional Mythology(although some details are modified to suit the situation). It is currently shipped into Japan(although artist is different), under the title 'Kami to Itsyo ni('Together with God'). It's a pity that there's no English Translated version for now..sigh

Just skimmed through it. It looks rather good now. It seems like it would be a good idea to do a search for "(" and replace it with " (", since there are a lot of paranthesis, and I think all of them lacks a space before them. I'd offer to rewrite myself, but I have a few other things to look over right now.

A vast improvement. It's well out of stub territory now. I'm sure there's room for improvement, but I'd say that this is no longer an issue for TRS—though we can probably leave the thread open for a little while if esotericupsurge wants more advice.

And all that without even mentioning the Gumiho I suggested earlier. grin

Thanks, everybody! [lol] Going to go through more data, and post them on this weekend or weekend after that. The Next step is Gwishin(ghosts) and Yogwe(supernatural monsters. In Chinese alphabet, they're same as Japanese Youkai). Unfortunately, I still have to search what tropes are relevant with what, so while I can write general information, adding tropes might take some time.

Hi, I must announce that I won't be adding anything new to this page for a while, since I need to study for my exam.... Heck, there are still tons of stuff in need of change and writing. For example: 1. Korean Gumihos are NOT always evil and sadistic. They are like kitsune, sometimes evil but sometimes good. In fact, they have distinct traits like life energy-sucking orb(a power that Ahri from League of Legend uses), and taking lessons(Yup!) to become humans. I wanted to write about it, but it was so time consuming(since there aren't lot of texts on Korean myths and legends).. 2. Korean Jeoseung-sajas are not always evil and corrupted. While they are certainly dreaded by most people(then again, who wouldn't?), they have some human side, like sparing good people. Also, they have three named members(depicted as warriors other than usual black clothes )Ganglim-doryeong, Haewonmaek, and Yi deok-chun. The trouble is that to change all this, I need to discuss this in pages on shinigami and kitsune, and I don't have time at this moment... Anyways, so long, guys! Wish someone could add new stuffs to this!

Should we close the thread and just add to the page whenever we have time?

I think it's ready to let it into the wild now. Good work, people.

I agree. Esotericupsurge has not come back for more advice, which is the only reason I suggested keeping this open for a while. And if he or she does end up wanting more advice, there are other, more appropriate forums.

I think we're done here. And thanks again to esotericupsurge for some excellent work on fixing this.
