I realised I forgot to update regarding my own interview. Which went really well, got great feedback, also there were actually two jobs going...neither of which I got, as both went to people already in the team. One was temporary, the other on secondment I think, so it was basically theirs to lose if they didn't fuck up.

Oh well, no complaints as that's how I got my job, and I still got great feedback and to meet a supervisor and a manager I'd never really spoken to before despite sitting all of 20 feet away for the last year and a half.

The only job I was ever fired from was journalism.

It was just after my undergrad. I was hired at the local newspaper. I had been hired to take calls on ads. We were allowed to write blogs though.

I did my first entry on cultural appropriation and the second one on the civil war in the Maghreb. The Editor in Chief came to my desk personally to congratulate me on my work.

I managed to be fired in less than two weeks. My supervisor stopped training me and made my life hell then when I wouldn't quit, I was fired.

I have no problems going back to it. I used to write for the Examiner. But they never paid me so I stopped.

If someone would pay me and treat me right, I would do it in a heartbeat.

What? Under what reason?

I mean, I do not expect a logical one, just. You know. At least trying to know what pitiful excuse was used.

Personality conflicts. Arkansas is right to work and right to hire. They don't need a reason to can me.

"Personality conflicts" is a valid reason for firing someone in the U.S?

Almost everything seems to be a valid reason to fire someone, according to what I read about the situation across the US.

Yeppers. Regretfully.

Polar opposites here. An employee of a public instance was found to be charging for his stay in some work related places and was actually not fired but instead given a one month (paid) reprimand.

Now he got caught using an official government car to go visit prostitutes. He got a suspension while it is being investigated.

Where can I apply?

This "job security" also translates to billionare expenses for the state due to spoiled syndicates whom upon not liking having their benefits reduced, take to strikes.

Before you say "but benefits are nice" take into account that for example 94% of the employees receive bonus pay for "Good performance", while having the most inefficient and expensive docks in all of the caribbean coast of Central America. They refuse to modernize because modernizing implies firing people since their jobs will be done thousand times more efficiently by a machine, and that these benefits include things such as hour long coffee breaks, and a swamped bureaocracy so inneficient it makes it impossible to fire someone no matter how purposefully malevolent and incompetent they are.

Think of the Baby Boomers who spent everything from your generation and fucked them up badly. Multiply it by 10. Add pseudo communist philosophy (That rose after the united Fruit Company abused the population) behind it and clogging of oxcart streets now overpopulated by cars and this is why one of the only countries in the world with no army can't actually use that budget properly.

Don't even get me started on how we pay million of dollars for a nationalized refinery that does not actually refine.

Hell most recent example (Fresh off the news today) is that a 1 million dollar cultural event that was eventually cancelled due to how disorganized it was had missing money that there is absolutely no paper trail for. Dr. Evil finally got his...ONE MILLION DOLLARS.

The total amount no onw knows where it went is 1367312,39 dollars

I, for one, would welcome our polar bear overlords.

Plus, think of the benefits. Ministry of Defense would be awesome. "Sir! The enemy army is approaching!" "Send them a bouquet of flowers" "Sir, they are armed to the teeth!" "Ok. Add some coupons."

And then the U.S, Argentina, Brazil, and allegedly the U.K who have promised to defend us if we are attacked swoop in and do the job

Link is in Portuguese. Basically, Brazil wants to prohibit the existence of any unpaid internship. According to a senator, it is a discriminatoy practice, since their Internship Law does several distinctions between non-obligatory and obligatory internships, where, in the curricular ones, it is possible to not get any kind of payment.

My manager called me yesterday to tell me that instead of waiting until August when my contract expires to negotiate anything, they wanted to offer me a deal now.

Basically, I become full time salary, benefits, and can work remote, which means I can work from home. I can't get a pay raise until Annual Evaluations because they are still figuring out the department budget. But I will be asking for a substantial raise when that comes up.

Oh this is a relief! Instead of having to worry about finding a new job so I can move, all I need to do now is find where I want to be because my job will come with me...

Finally. And I met my goal of getting a good job before I am thirty. I am counting myself super lucky now.

It seems like the US government has changed the "Pathways" program to be less about recent graduates and more about "student trainees," a paid internship thing. Which is lovely, except that you have to be currently enrolled to do the damn thing, which means "live and go to school in the DC area or you can fuck right off."

Pathways should be more for recent graduates. That's how it used to be.

Also it forces you to artificially prolong your studies.

They just cancelled the position I was going to go for...really?!

If I don't find another job in a couple of weeks we are fucked.

I can always go back to the mental institution if I have to but I seriously don't know if I can mentally and emotionally handle having to fight people or get hit or beat for a living again.

Shame you basically won't be able to use this on your resume though.
