[up] Oh, that does not sound fun.

I just finished up the clockwork imp dimension. Annoying but with decent rewards at least.

It's honestly why I have Blood Rain and regular ole' Rain scrolls on everyone. It's honestly the easiest way to deal with Necrofire, and how I've taken to dealing with the bloody Blackpits oil rig fight.

Wasting a point blessing the ground is a pain.

Though the worst part about the Blackpit fight was keeping the NPC alive through it all.

BTW, when playing through the clockwork dimension, did anyone else make the mistake of not saving right before using the flush handle?

That was a bit of my life I'll never get back.

That quest was at least pretty funny. It only reinforced the impression that Imps are both really smart and really stupid.

Does blood rain douse necrofire? It doesn't do anything for me. I always used bless + rain for my necrofire problems. Tornado can also get rid of it but I wouldn't recommend it as it's really not that helpful.

Edit: Polymorph also has the shed skin ablity, which restores all cooldowns and removes some statuses. Including necrofire.

I sometimes use the polymorph ability that switches terrain.

That's actually how I killed that one troll on the Nameless Isle. I switched the normal ground he was on with the lava from the nearby pit.

The only way to clear Necrofire is through Blessing it, so no.

And that's the Sallow Man dead. Getting to higher terrain to take out that one mage first really makes a difference.

Just getting to higher terrain in general makes a difference. Imagine how much more difficult the Blackpits oil rig fight would have been if you were forced to start the battle on the ground.

And that's the Shadow Prince down. I guess I'll wipe out the Mother Tree next.

On a side note, I just found out you can't pray at altars if you learned the order from the Sallow Man. So much for the achievement.

So I got Divinity 2 yesterday and am a bit overwhelmed with the class choices. What's a good beginner class? I've read that taking one of the origins is recommended but none of those assholes interests me. Do I lose out a lot by making a custom character?

Something that can heal itself is always a good option. Necromancy useful even if you don't plan on taking any of the abilities since you can drain health with each hit.

And technically no? They have their own storylines and if you opt to make your own character than that's one less you can see per playthrough, which, imo, is just a replay value bonus.

You're not missing too much by making a custom character. Each origin character has their own questline and dialogue options unique to them. You'll still experience their quest when you have them as a party member, but you have some unique story moments you'll only experience when you play as them. You can still play the origin characters however you want, you just have more options when you play as one. Custom characters do have one of the more useful source abilities (dome of protection) though. And not all of them are assholes, some of them are decent people.

As for classes, after chapter 1 you can respec your character (and anyone in your party) however much you please, so don't be too worried about making a poor build. So you can start as a warrior and respec immediately into a mage. The only limiting factor is that you then have to buy/find appropriate spells and maybe weapons/armor. The fighter is a pretty straightforward class though. I would also recommend you pick up someone with hydrosophy (water bending) at some point if you don't start with it. It has all but one healing spell (which is in necromancy) and some good buff spells and offensive magic. The cleric and enchanter both start with it, but you can always level it up on whomever.

Physical damage is where it's at. That's one reason a Summoner type mage works pretty well. Necro mage too, since the Necro damage spells also deal physical damage.

For your melee fighter, sword+board works pretty well, especially with the shield throwing skill. That ability becomes pretty powerful once you get better shields.

Yeah, I've also found that focusing nearly entirely on physical damage is the way to go. I have Lohse as a spellcaster, but she's more of a support than any sort of damage dealer, though she's pretty adept at draining magic armor from enemies that require it. Red Prince and Sebille are physical classes, being a two-hander and archer respectively, while Ifan is a hybrid, with him dual-wielding melee weapons while occasionally casting spells to complement whatever the party's doing.

I think the main issue with magic damage is that there's so many resistances and immunities to worry about, and later enemies often have ridiculously high elemental resistance. On the other hand, it's fairly easy to overwhelm physical resistance, so sometimes I've found that whittling down someone's physical armor to be more beneficial than draining their magic armor first, even if said someone's PA is higher than their MA.

I've gone with a sword-and-board Red Prince, dual dagger Sebille, Archer Ifan, and Summoner-Hydro-Necro Lohse with enough points in Aero to use Teleport. Enemy Physical Armor melts like butter against this team. Helps that the team also specializes in ways to incapacitate foes via Knockdown and other means. I gave Sebille Polymorph levels so she could turn the foes whose armor she destroyed into chickens — it combos very well with Rupture Tendons since chickens always try to run.

I love having the option to respec characters whenever you want, for free. IMHO, every RPG should have this. It's almost like the developers of this game wanted players to have fun.

My Red Prince was originally a sword-and-board, but I found it so much more satisfying using a two-hander to completely annihilate anyone I go up against. Plus he's still tanky enough that I don't really have to worry about him too much, not with Ifan and Lohse able to continuously keep up the healing.

My primary annoyance is how the AI in the game will almost always ignore everyone else at their own peril in order to go after my Sebille, who is the only one in the party who has Glass Cannon, thus making her always vulnerable to CC.

[up] Same. Red Prince, Ifan and Sebille have Polymorph, though for Sebille it's mostly for the wings and invisibility. Red Prince and Ifan have Chicken Claw, Heart of Steel, Skin Graft and Wings as their primary Polymorph skills, though I've stopped using Chicken Claw too much since it trivializes so many encounters. Spread Your Wings is amazing for repositioning and getting the high ground. I'm so glad they give you that skill book early on in Fort Joy.

[up] I only have Sebille with Polymorph skills, including Chicken Claw. Since I'm playing on Classical, I'm not too interested in min-maxing or breaking the game. It's not really my idea of fun.

If I really wanted to trivialize things, I'd probably have given all of my party max Summoning.

I stick with sword and board on Red Prince since I really like the shield throwing skill.

I'm thinking of making Fane my main in my next playthrough. But I don't know who to give up in his place. Ifan, Red Prince, Sebille, or Lohse?

Still don't give a damn about Beast.
