Spoilers but soon a separate hero org. called the Hunters will form to directly challenge the association for doing a rather piss-poor management of the heroes. There also devoted to saving people, not on fighting monsters.

Also is Marvel kinda shilling Kate. Like I read the description of the first issue of her new series & I couldn't help but find this part a little mean.

"Remember Hawkeye? No not that Hawkeye, our favorite Hawkeye, the chick who puts the hawk in Hawkeye, the butt-kicking hero who had to save the other Hawkeye’s butt all the time."

I mean weren't Kate & Clint pretty even before?

[up] Because she's spunky. I think that's what a lot of it comes down to. Kate Bishop is awesomely devoid of fucks to give. Clint, historically, could be a douche. Just, like, a total douche. In a variety of ways. There was his treatment of Bobbi, of course. He could, at times, be a blowhard. He has a long history of misogyny. He often came across as egotistical. He was, in so many ways, a douche.

And then in comes Kate. And she has all Clint's best qualities, and none of his worst ones. But she does have the kind of recklessness that comes with youth, which is endearing and exciting (and which is frustrating in adults). And she's just a breath of fresh air. She's really easy to love.

She's young and optimistic and funny and reckless and absolutely loves being a superhero, and she surrounds herself with people who are young and optimistic and funny and love being superheroes. Kate is just damn easy to like as a character, while Clint is easy to dislike (even if it's affectionate dislike).

So. That's how Kate becomes the Best Hawkeye in so many eyes.

Clint Barton sucks, Kate Bishop rules.

There was his treatment of Bobbi, of course.
Oh my god, I love how the last issue of Mockingbird just totally called him out on his sheer hypocrisy regarding Bobbi letting the Phantom Rider die.

Also, this quote from this interview is why I'm excited about the new Hawkeye series:

Thompson: When I was pitching I initially described Kate’s book as Veronica Mars with superheroes, and though a lot has changed since pitching, I think that still sums us up pretty well.

[up] I'm not familiar with the Phantom Ride stuff, but I get the feeling that that was already addressed awhile ago? Isn't that kind of beating a dead horse?

[up] I don't think it was ever addressed, actually. Bobbi let the Phantom Rider (a man who raped her) die, Clint told that she murdered him and wouldn't let it go, and now Clint actually murdered a dude, making him a big old hypocrite.

Kate to some of you may be like unbelievably awesome but to me I'm apathetic. I personally don't mind her but I prefer Clint. The dudes a douche yeah but he's a likable douche, I remember loving the guy back on Earth's Mightiest Heroes when he was a bit of a jerk, especially with that kickass costume he used to wear. He's an awesome guy & the best damn archer in the Marvel universe with tons of history.

Also don't play Kate as fucking perfect. The girl can be arrogant, egotistical, short-sighted & a jerk. She has as much flaws as Clint & is in no way better than him. Sure she has potential but Clint's got experience & will always be her superior till the day he hangs up the bow forever.

[down] When did this happen because honestly I ignore everything that happens before the year 2000 unless its some amazing story or event.

[up][up][up][up] Yeah. Though, of course, coming from the guy who kidnapped and raped her (he violated her emotionally, if not physically, as he used drugs to make her fall in love with him), it's hard to take the comments too seriously. Which is, I think, part of the point of Phantom Rider being the one delivering the comments.

Edit: [up] Yeah, of course she has flaws. All the things you said about her are correct. She's still young, she's still got a lot to learn. But to a lot of people, she's just a lot more likable than Clint, for the reasons I gave.

And the Phantom Rider stuff happened in West Coast Avengers. Under Steve Englehart. Because if there's fucked-up sexual issues involved in a pre-2000s Marvel comic, there's actually a pretty decent chance it was Englehart who wrote it.

[up][up][up] I feel like I read that it had been somewhere. I don't know, I'm not an expert.

As for Kate...I'll admit, I'm not to familiar with comparisons between her and Clint, outside of Fraction's series. The impression I got there, though, was that while both her competent (and Clint's definitely more experienced), Kate tends to be less of a mess, all things considered.

About Clint murdering Banner that was written by Bendis in a bad event so I'm not sure how much of the blame he deserves honestly.

Also I just prefer the old-school stuff. I'm actually pretty young & most likely fit Kate's fandom but I honestly prefer all the old-heroes. Mostly cause of all the movies & cartoons I watched as kid which prolly contributes to my high opinion of Clint cause he was fucking awesome in Earth's Mightiest Heroes when he was on the run for a while & the teaming up with Hulk & Thor against the Gamma-Avenger's. When I first found it Clint traded his old costume for his current spyware shit, I was like really saddened. I loved that outfit.

In-universe, the characters can't really blame the author for bad things. Unless they are written by Grant Morrison or John Byrne.

Yeah, I feel like I'm supposed to be Kate's age demo and I don't like her or Clint more than the other. They work together and bounce off each other very well and I don't think either of them are necessarily as interesting individually as they are a unit, no matter how hard you scream "SPUNKY" or "DOUCHE" through a clenched-teeth smile.

the only kind of SHR I'd ever tolerate would be a Hero Secret Service. because in that case, the government aren't a bunch of bigoted assholes and actually want to help and protect superhumans, which in turn helps and protects muggles. registration is just a trivial process and they don't reveal your identity to everyone anyways. basically, the government people are your friends. which is far, far away from anything in Marvel.

also I like both Clint and Kate. Kate is cool from what I read of her. Clint may be a hypocrite and a jerkass, but he's always been a funny character, a perfect Lancer, and he got many, many seriously badass moments. and I really like his old costume, such a shame he got rid of the mask.

Yeah, I have been kind of disappointed by the trend in recent years, and Marvel and DC have both been guilty of this, to replace costumes with what basically looks like people running around in Underarmour.

Or people wearing jeans, jackets, and t-shirts. Fuck you, that's not a costume, that's a Liefeld character. If you're not drawing Lobo, throw that design in the fucking garbage and try again.

Its boring, undistinctive & uncreative. Clint's costume at this point is just a black shirt & pants with purple highlights along with purple glasses.

Also while I never read either Younger Avenger's series I have to admit Kate had a really cool costume in the first series. There's' a lot of things I like about it such as the armor look especially on her arms, her pants having a v-finned badass long-coat extension, a cool whit scarf & some pretty nice shades. Her current look just looks really plain to me when compared.

Comics today!

Squirrel Girl #12: Wherein she meets her most trying foe to date. BOREDOM! But also there's this dude that can split himself into two identical, smaller copies for the purposes of stealing muffins/taking over the world.

New Avengers #16: Wherein the most important thing happens! Squirrel Girl and Tippy Toe unionize Vermin's rat army and rehabilitating criminals on her own time is 90% of what Squirrel Girl does on her own time. Also I guess we learn what coming in slices means, de Costa gets shot in the face by an asshole cyborg, and Obama regrets agreeing to a cameo role.

Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur #11: Wherein Devil Dinosaur gets on several of Lunella's last nerves. Eating the thing was very rude, guy. Devil Dinosaur is smarter than Lunella gives him credit for, at least historically, so there was a point to it and it was poorly made. Think of her poor enamel you giant not-lizard. Also Kid Kree has a bit of a crush and the kree are jerks.

Ms. Marvel #11: Everything hurts and nothing is alright.
