[up] I'll get back to you on that later.

Surprisingly, Cap and the Avengers already knew about the Winter Soldier before the events of this episode.

Well, maybe they are trying to connect it to EMH again by making their first encounter with Winter Soldier from EMH canon to this series? That or it's based on his movie appearance. Depends.

Huh. That's the first time I've seen Marvel remove one of their videos...

Anyways, I think Arsenal is an okay and likable character, if a bit under-developed by the time he sacrifices himself. But they're a story arc with him, so I'm not complaining.

Is the jetpack thing going to be Hawkeye's running gag now, because it wasn't funny when Spider-Man did it. And I miss the silent Winter Soldier.

Honestly, they should tone down the gags arguments and the one-liners. Not that it ruins the series, but it's cheesy and kinda distracting. There are more subtle ways to include humor.

That said, still a pretty nice episode. I wasn't bothered by the fact they used the Winter Soldier's movie design because this time it actually worked very well.

I like that there's a story arc of Hydra trying to get Red Skull back from the Avengers' custody. That's a clever consequence.

Also, Black Widow has a personality!

[up][up][up] Yeah, that's my central problem with the series.

Ultimately, though, this results from the fact the show has a bad thesis point (making an Avengers show that's just for kids). It doesn't make the show as accessible to viewers as it should be.

Just as a point of interest, if they only want the action figure-buying little boy demographic and all others are irrelevant, how are the action figure sales doing compared to Earth's Mightiest Heroes?

mudshark: I don't expect Nate to make sense, really.

I can't help feeling these shows would be much better being about the Marvel franchises Marvel Animation doesn't have a hold over, which is a shame. The Fantastic Four lend themselves far more to the atmosphere Assemble and SMASH keep aiming for, while the X-Men sure could use an adaptation that wouldn't rely that much on the angst and ongoing melodrama for once.

[up] I have to agree. All three of the shows have used basically every Fantastic Four villain....yet the F4 themselves only appear in one episode out the 100+ episodes.

The Thing showed up in that Assemble episode about Hulk's Day Out, for what it counts.

They're really setting up more stories this season, which is a welcome change.

The return of the Hyperion cube was a surprise. I don't think they really elaborated what those things were in the Hyperion episode.

Nighthawk gets broken out of prison by Hyperion, possibly setting up the return of the Squadron Supreme? I've heard a rumor they may be clones, but I'm curious to know why Hyperion gives a shit about his team after he supposedly blew them up along with their home planet.

Overall, another decent episode. A shame not enough people aren't looking into this show right now.

I liked the casting of Nighthawk. wink

I wonder what former Wonder Woman voice actress for Power Princess. Or for the other heroes.

I've got to admit. I stopped watching all new Marvel shows after first season (Spidey after two) because they were so bland. But I tried this season and it... pretty good? OK, Hawkeye/Attuma episode was still bland, and Thanos's voice is ridiculously underwhelming to the point I can barely listen to it. But I do like the rest. Last episode with Nighthawk actually made me hyped for future episodes.

Probably should've said this earlier, but I managed to finish The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes some weeks ago thanks to Netflix.

Great show, but I've kinda been skeptical about watching Avengers Assemble after hearing (or rather reading) how you guys loved EMH a lot and AA…not so much.

[up] I say check out Avengers Assemble. It's actually a pretty good show when you go into it with an open mind.

Don't listen to the haters about "Oh there's no character development and it's soooo dumbed down comedic BS", they're overreacting because their precious EMH was cancelled. It's NOT that comedic. It's NOT dumbed down to absurd levels. That's what they want you to think so less people will watch AA.

You can't really compare the two, despite what others may tell you. They're both doing their own thing, and should be thought of as separate entities.

So don't listen to what others say, and form your own opinion. If you like Ultimate Spider-Man, you'll LOVE Avengers Assemble. smile

I have never watched EMH, and yet I think Assemble is too simplistic and corny for a current day superhero show. Please don't throw generalizations of that type around. Not all of those who dare having the diverging opinion of considering Assemble flawed do it because of some attachement to a previous show.

Also, 'haters' has become quite an overused word that has kind of overstayed its welcome, as it carries a personal attack stigma from the get-go.
