Yeah, from what I hear: Hokuto Musou 1 is a better brawler overall, even if it's a little slow, but it's not even a complete retelling of Hokuto No Ken's first arc.
Hokuto Musou 2 speeds things up to a considerable degree, but really limits the versatility and high level play potential of the first game. Basically, play it if you want a really faithful (if a bit lazy) retelling of the manga as a whole, and as a brawler second.
... I hope the price dropped.
