I thought so too, though I feel Asuras Wrath spoiled me when it comes to awesome boss fights, so I don't think it's the Best Boss Ever.
But I do think it is the best Final Boss fight in a Platinum Games game to date, though.
Watch SymphogearI recognise how epic the final boss is from all of the reveals and "No this is my final form" moments and the ending of the game, but I think it could have been a much better exploration of the mechanics that the game introduced. The battles with Vorkken's battles along with some others are more "interesting" even if they aren't more epic... One of those sequences in the final boss fight is a little cheap for someone like me who doesn't like continues too...
And I should really get to Asura's Wrath sometime but the DLC ending thing is kinda a killjoy to know about.
For me, the best final boss in a Platinum title would have to be Senator Armstrong, with Zaitsev's mech suits close behind. Unlike the stilted Jubileus fight or tedious Planetary Destruction Form, Armstrong is a challenge that deals primarily in his game's central combat mechanics, and is an opponent with a high degree of mobility and varied offensive capability, who nevertheless doesn't feel particularly cheap. Unlike most Platinum final bosses, he's actually a valid choice for one of his game's best bosses; which is even higher praise than usual considering the overall strength of MGR's boss fights.
...When the final boss of the game's D Lc is a golden Hindu deity as big as hundreds of galaxies, and it's only during the first half of the fight, I feel it's worth the price.
Plus, the game itself is dirt cheap now, so it's worth picking up.
Watch SymphogearI've seen unhealthy amount of Metal Gear Rising considering that I only played the demo, but agree that Armstrong is a much better final boss as far as exploring the mechanics of the game and skill ceiling of the game. I should get back to Infinite Space to see whether that game has any good ideas behind all of the stuff it has... It also isn't that user friendly.
I'll give Asura's Wrath (and reluctantly the DLC) a look given that I would basically be paying dirt for the game at this point. I can overlook my values a bit when my wallet is going to hurt.
Yeah, I still feel that, as awesome as the final boss from Asuras Wrath is, it still pales compared to the visceral combat and rockin soundtrack of the Armstrong fight from MGR, and the creativity and charm of the Jergingha fight from 101.
Scale isn't everything after all.
I still think it is, for the most part.
And I like Asura's Wrath music better then either game, too.
Plus, the Jerginha boss fight, while cool, was almost a bit Too long for it's own good after a while.

Watch SymphogearIf they have this standard for L Ps of other action games, I'll have to go back and give them a look. They are genuinely entertaining to listen to and as it isn't a blind playthrough but a well paced perfect run you get to learn mechanics and secrets you may not have noticed with multiple playthroughs in the first few episodes.
Thanks for linking it.
I can confirm that they keep this standard for pretty most of their LPs, not just their action ones. At least, in the non-early LPs, but even in those Chip attempts to show off as many secrets and gameplay mechanics as possible.
Sounds like I need to give this LP a try, especially since the one I was watching earlier (back when I was in this thread a few months ago) 1) suddenly disappeared and 2) was being played by someone who was pretty bad at the game, but his was the only one that didn't have commentary throughout.
I still want to watch the game without it having any commentary, but I don't mind that if it's done well (and it sounds like Chip's LP does it well).
They're pretty much the best Metal Gear and Uncharted series Let's Players around.
I personally loved the Mega Man Legends LP a lot, but that's kinda personal.
The Metal Gear Rising LP is kind of the best thing ever. The Peace Walker and Metal Gear Solid 4 Let's Plays are also great.
Heck, the parts where they reverse the action with a silly rewind sound? Apparently they actually recorded an actual tape being rewound because there wasn't any decent version online. Even the little details are intricate as heck.
To be honest, they spend so much time getting every little thing and explaining everything in detail that it breaks the flow of the game and makes it kind of a slog.
They do edit things out. There's a lot of effort spent on and thought put into pacing, I've noticed.
I usually find it interesting, insightful, funny, and not boring.
As opposed to let's players where they leave the recording going while doing technical stuff, or so many different deaths.
So yeah. Sorry. Kinda disagree.
EDIT: If nothing else, the detail is really really helpful. Like, in games like Peace Walker and Revengeance where there's stuff you might miss otherwise.

I only find that true for the first operation, and even then, the foreground events can be funny, like Blue falling off screen and having to get back into the position he was in during that "freeze-frame." This game has a really great sense of humor.

ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.For him, that's bordering on Purple Prose.
...Well, that's real cool of him to say.
Especially considering his well known abrasiveness on twitter.
I have a message from another time......Actually, it looks like all he said was "oh".
Welcome to th:|"Oh" is a marked difference from "do you eat shit", "fuck off", or the ever-popular "blocked".
...He only says stuff like that to people who ask dumb or repetitive questions, or bother him about things he's known to dislike discussing.
Otherwise he's pretty neutral.

Umbran Climax◊
Whelp, just finished the game. I'd put down some intelligent thoughts, but I can't really get over that ridiculously awesome final boss fight. Seriously, that was absolutely wonderful.
