Yes, it was to my complete non-surprise that techbros spent months setting up fake women for a conference instead of reaching out to actual women.

A lot of them clearly haven't outgrown the "girls have cooties" phase.

The "girls have cooties" phase shouldn't exist, period. Kids should be taught from an early age that sexism(both misogyny and misandry) are wrong. Imagine if some white kids believed "black kids have cooties"?

Not hard to imagine if you look at the right historical works.

Even as a little kid I always hated the "Girls have Cooties" meme.

We had this thing called Jim Crow in the USA several decades back. Black people couldn't even use the same public drinking fountains as white people.

The idea that black people have some imagined germs was very much a thing.

I would say there is a bit of a difference with "girls have cooties" in so much that "girls have cooties" is seen as something that is both normal to have yet expected to grow out of.

Yeah, some studies have show we often see black people as pain resistence in some way, so doctor threat them harshly for example, probably another reason of why police often shoot them more than once.

You guys misunderstood. I think believing "girls have cooties" should be seen as just as unacceptable as Jim Crow M84 mentioned. Sexism shouldn't be seen as "normal" at any age.

I dont want to defend ANY form of sexism, but I think the cooties thing is more accepted or at least tolerated because its a way to avoid kids losing innocence young and doing anything way too early. But I still think its wrong and we should find better ways.

What activities do you think the idea is blocking or innocence it is preserving? Because from where I sit all it does it prevent early-age mixed gender interaction. It’s not an idea that persists into teenage years (that’s more “girls are demanding” and “girls have gross biology”) where your implied loss of innocence of doing of inapropriate activities tend to occur.

The normalisation of cross-gender social interaction doesn’t increase the likelihood of age-inappropriate activities, the removal of mystery (via familiarisation) from the opposite gender will actually decrease the likelihood of the most inappropriate activity in that it reduces the likelihood of abuse by building human connection.

I think it want to said is girl have cooties and tht kind of stuff is silly stuff kids then to belive because they are kids, like beliving in santa and all stuff you kinda let get away with it because....well, kids will be kids.

It sets a pretty bad precidence going foward though, it treats girls as an other...

And that is a mindset that presists in a lot of men well into adaulthood...

Its not an inocent belief that doesn't mater in the long run.
