Not surprising, I remember Epic mentioning years back that they were planning to make it a four game series.

Starring Damon Baird and Cole Train as the main protagonists!

This'll be interesting.

Apparently you will get options on how you play through the story, choosing whether you play a particular event as classified or not. And they are combining Beast and Horde Mode into one called Overrun, 5v5 which includes a class-based system like Engineer and Medic.

Rob Auten's the usual hack that they bring in to do this kind of work, so I'm not surprised by him, but Tom Bissell is one of the last people I'd expect to see working for Gears Of War. He's no more a fan of the thug versus rioting aliens genre than he is of Tolkein derivativism.

Edit: Actually, he quite likes it. I think it's the Vietnam thing this series has going on. Part of me feels slightly dubious towards his work, since I find the motivation behind an essay concerned with Gear's art to be more than slightly dubious. At least his prose isn't slack, and he's clearly not as tin eared as far too many reviewers out there.

I guess I'm watching this space.

Next Gears of War game being developed by Black Tusk, as Microsoft bought the IP from Epic.

A teaser trailer is going to be at E3.

I can't tell if that's Anya or not. The Coalition said that Anya wasn't JD's mother but that woman looks a lot like her.

What? I've only heard that JD is Marcus and Anya's son.

Anya was stated to be sterile in the books, unless The Coalition's disregarding that.

That is something I recall, but to be fair, infertility actually is an umbrella term medically between "has great difficulty conceiving" and "Totally can't conceive", and I suppose sterile is just a colloquial synonym of infertile so...them having one kid could still not fly in the face of that.

Now if they had 5 kids all of different ages it'd be fair to go ಠ_ಠ

He could also be a war orphan from the Locust War.

I don't think they'd do that, because then people would definitely regard his resemblance to his adoptive parents as contrived (well, he doesn't look all that much alike to Marcus, but there are a few points). tongue

I do really love the music choice. Disturbed's cover of "The Sound of Silence" is always nice to hear.

So we finally get a look at the Pendulum Wars that isn't in the EU. Doesn't necessarily look like how it was described in the book but at least it gives us a bit more insight into the UIR.

I'm rather impressed with the idea of exploring the entirety of the Gears mythology through quick bites of famous battles. The first game did itself no favors with the clumsy use of the opening scene (the backstory and premise didn't kick on when you pressed start but when the title screen was in idle for a few minutes, meaning it was easy for eager players to miss it). I also like that it seems they are exploring a few gaps of major events but are otherwise not inserting loads of EU material into the game. That's something that hasn't impressed me much with the current Halo franchise, it makes casual fans feel like they are missing half the puzzle.

Truth is, I consider Gears of War 3 to be just about perfect. Large weapon variety, the best co-op modes of any games out there (Horde, Beast, campaign Arcade), DLC that includes more story content, great characters and utterly heartbreaking emotional moments. I'm interested in Gears 4 but I'm worried because of the trailer that Marcus will die and that's just not something I'm interested in witnessing. This kind of stuff always carries a "kill off the old crew to focus on the new crew, even Star Wars fell victim to that trap.

I figured Insane would be a bit easier to do on PC than on console like my experiences with past versions
