![]() QUI FECIT ALIUS LOCUS
All right. This is the thread for the playtesting of my D10 pony RPG.
I'm obviously Hasbro here. We can keep most of the disussion in the original D20 discussion thread.
As I said, I'm going to be pretty lenient and give a lot of guidance. As a playtest, rules will probably change as we go along, but we'll see how things go.
Try to keep IC conversation and OOC conversation distinct.
So, you are all currently in the Trottingham City Hall. The reason can be any you want, but I would like you to let me know. You can assume that most characters are speaking with a Trottingham accent, but I'm not going to bother trying to transcribe one.
And so the story begins:
You are all waiting in reception. As you wait, you hear a large thump on the roof as panicked screaming fills the air and an alarm sounds. What follows is the sound of ripping and clattering before a large claw rips open the ceiling. Through the hole, you see a dragon who appears to be searching for something. He suddenly reaches down and picks up a pony from another room and roars in his face before lifting off and flying away.
“ It’s got the Mayor!” the receptionist shrieks.
What do you do?

I try to write down everything I can remember about the dragon so I don't forget later.

All right. You grab some paper and a quill and write down what you observed. Your special talent is investigation, so I assume that you do a reasonable job for now. We can worry about exactly what you wrote when it becomes relevant.
Also, I'm assuming that you paid attention to the dragon's actions based on your talent, so I'm going to roll your judge (1) + wisdom (5) + talent bonus (1 and a free achievement point) to see what you find. You don't get much beyond it was searching for something.
As this is a playtest, I'll mention that my rolls were 10 (2 + reroll) 6 2 5 6 7 (1) 3. The reroll gave a 3. Adding those achievement points together with the bonus 1 gives 4. Only enough to spot pretty obvious things.

Bramble momentarily freezes at the sight of the dragon, then as the massive draconian departs with a screaming mayor, he immediately runs outside to try and see where the dragon was headed.

I suggest Who else is with me anyway? that we try to search the mayors office to see if he's had any prior dealings with a dragon matching the description.
Oh Brambles outside. I guess he didn't hear me then.

Bramble sees the dragon fly off with the Mayor over the *GASP* Everfree Forrest and towards a mountain on the other side.

By the way, what is Head in the Clouds's special talent? I don't see it on your character sheet.
Are you heading into the mayor's office?

Bramble groans as he recognises the Forest the dragon had flown over. He decides to head back inside to tell the others where he'd seen the dragon fly off over.

"Ok, do you know where the office is? There's got to be a reason the dragon was after the mayor. Although actually, it's probably best to ask around first, because if we're caught in the office, they might catch on to us."

Ok, how about you keep a watch outside while I try to look for anything that would lead us to the dragon. Assuming there are no obvious notes, I think financial records would be a good palce to start.

The secretary opens the door and leads you inside. The office is well furnished and organised.
She helps gaurd the place as you search.
I'll need Intelligence + investigate. Private Eye can add his talent bonus.

That's 9 dice right? Hold on while I look up the rules for rolling.

As the two ponies began investigating the Mayor's office, Bramble comes in.
Bramble: Uh, not so good news, everypony, I saw the dragon fly off over the Everfree.

Ok, I get 5. (rolls) 1, 4, 10, 2, 8, 10, 4, 2, 4, 6, 7
Not good news? Well that's an understatement! What kind of government just lets ponies get kidnapped anyway? Did you even have an emergency management plan in place for responding to hostile dragons?

Slightly taken aback, Bramble steps back at the outburst.
Bramble: D-don't look at me, I'm just a travelling pony out to earn some bits for supplies and possibly get my Cutie Mark in the process.
Bramble gestures at his blank flank for empasis

Those calculations are correct. You guys discover that over the past year, there has been an increase in spending on the mayor's office and house furnishings. As well as a lot more going out to resturants and similar leisurely actvities. You also find that within the past month, the mayor has collected information on the prices of gems and jewelry from around the town.Especially rings. A week ago, he also took a few days off.
" The sirens warning of a dragon approach went off. Everyone was supposed to stay indoors, but we didn't expect one to rip off the roof and foalnap the mayor!" cries the secretary.

Oh, sorry, I thought you were part of this farcical operation here. As you can see, the central office noticed some financial regularities, so we were called in to do a surprise audit. Of course, I didn't expect to have to dodge dragons left and right just to get in the door. Anyway, I'm Private Eye. What's your name?
