This is an idea I've played with repeatedly, and the more I look at it, the more uncannily accurate and possibly true it seems. I figured I'd run it by you guys to see if you agree or disagree. Essentially, it's Exactly What It Says on the Tin: Oban Star Racers takes place in the same universe as Code Lyoko, albeit decades in the future.

The Evidence:

Behind-the-scenes:

  • The two series share a creator, Thomas Romain.

In-universe:

  • I believe Molly (from Oban) is the granddaughter of Jeremie and Aelita (from Lyoko). Molly's mother is named Maya and has pink hair. "Maya" is the name Jeremie gave Aelita before either of them knew her real name or had restored her memory (or had even realized she was human). Aelita has pink hair, as did her mother Anthea. Thus, Maya is Jeremie and Aelita's daughter.

  • The facial tattoos. Savin Yeatman-Eiffel, the "main" creator of Oban, stated that at some point before the beginning of the series, facial tattoos became a hot trend. Both Molly and Maya have facial tattoos on their cheeks. In Lyoko, Odd and Aelita's virtual avatars both had facial tattoos as well. Therefore, it's possible that at some point, the CL gang's adventures became known to the public, and some people started tattooing their faces as a form of gratitude (kind of like those dudes getting Tony Stark beards and haircuts at the end of The Avengers). Maya and Molly probably tattooed their faces as a means to honor Aelita.

  • Don Wei had to drive for days to drop Molly off at Stern Boarding School. Why did he deposit her so far away from home? If he intended to never see her again, he could just as easily have found a foster home for her to live in that was closer to their home. But he wanted her to be well taken care of, so he deposited her in a place either founded by or otherwise affiliated with a friend of Maya's family, Ulrich Stern.

Anyone think I'm on to something here?
