"This trope is probably so common because everyone who wasn't homeschooled knew someone like this... or was one." Well, currently, the trope is so common because the name is way, WAY too broad for such a specific trope. It's being used for any kind of bitch, regardless of setting. I understand (even if I don't always agree with) the desire to rename obscurely-named tropes to make them more "accessible", but this has gone right through to the other side. By all rights, it should be renamed *again*, this time to something that actually describes what the trope is (High School Alpha Bitch?), because it's becoming a sort of People Sit On Chairs in regards to personality types.
I'm tempted to add another section of me bitching (no pun intended) about renames like this in general, but that won't lead to anything productive, so I'll just restate my point: Alpha Bitch is way too broad a name, and it must be renamed, because there's no other way to stop the rampant misuse.
