How appropriate, I just got Contra 4 in the mail yesterday!
It's an awesome game, as I expected. Wayforward really did a great job capturing the spirit of the original. As in, it is really, really hard. The Konami Code doesn't appear to do anything, unfortunately.
Not to mention the NES versions of Contra and Super C as embedded bonuses, too!

You're talking about Contra 4 for the Nintendo DS, I take it? God, I actually want a DS now.
I've actually beaten the first NES Contra, but that leaves the other ones... and I dread the challenge of Hard Corps...
visit my blog!I have played Probotector and Wiiware Contra Rebirth Latter one is very silly game
and Probotector* isn't silly?
Contra Rebirth is one of the few things that makes me want a Wii.
Incidentally I'm disappointed that apparently this franchise is less-remembered than Ghosts n' Goblins.
visit my blog!I love Contra. Nintendo dun goofed by not making the first game a VC release.
Though for all intents and purposes, Super C is a far superior game. Its substages (overhead) is far better than Contra's substages (over the shoulder. ew.)
ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.Oh, I dunno why I never mentioned this, but I beat the first Contra recently, and uploaded videos of my session on another forum. Since this topic needs some juice I might as well post them here too:
I kinda wish I had added funny text comments or something, but whatever. Now I'm attempting Super C, but I might skip it and go straight for Hard Corps.
So I'm guessing there's nobody who actually likes the two Appaloosa-developed games, eh?

Probably necroposting. But yeah, with the current state of Konami, I doubt we'll be getting another Contra.
My personal favorite is Contra: Hard Corps... And after awhile playing it and comparing with other Contra, I somehow found something odd within me. I dunno, either I played it too many damn times or using Brad Fang too many damn times... It's a little deviating from normal Contras.
Main attraction of Hard Corps is the boss battles (which, again, if you use Fang and his Psychic Blaster, if they can come to his horizontal line, they got turned into Anti-Climax Boss). But non-boss areas? ... It just doesn't feel Contra-ish. It's just running to a straight line, you can just aim forward and press FIRE all day long and then call it a day. When compared to usual Contras like maybe Alien Wars, you can feel that fire comes from frickin' everywhere that your life is on the fucking line even against mooks.
But still, Hard Corps is still a personal favorite of mine. Even if Uprising eventually improves it by giving it hard boss + hard normal stages. Maybe it's because in case of Hard Corps, every characters actually felt unique... not just defined with "This guy picks up a Spread Shot".
I'm open with Hard Corps challenges to make it more challenging. Any suggestions? Just don't make it too masochistic.

I think "don't use Brad" is the most obvious challenge.
Another one could be choosing one/two of the four weapons available (per character) and sticking with it.

My DA account... I draw stuff sometimes!Don't hold your breath because Konami is still Konami and ergo is the worst, but are we getting something Contra related for PS4, Switch, and Xbox One?
A Contra: Rogue Corps Update Offers New Weapons and a New Exploration Mission
The storm has now resided, the wolf now rests.Just wanted to say I still have a soft spot for the very first Contra Game I ever played: Contra III: The Alien Wars. Hard as nails, but short enough to not overstay its welcome and had so many unique set pieces that it still remains a favorite to this day.
Nice to see another Contra game being released.
I noticed there were topics asking about specific Contra games, but none for discussing the series as a whole. Recently I've been bitten with the Contra bug, and in rapid succession purchased both the NES games, as well as Operation C on the Gameboy and (this is my proudest trophy) Contra: Hard Corps with manual and the original clamshell case.
So, lemme start off with a question:
Is there anyone here who has played both the Saturn and Playstation versions of Legacy of War, and if so can you tell me if there are any significant differences between the two editions? Thanks in advance.
