I think the reason why some people think they've swapped minds is that in Carpet Diem all the clues pointing towards the twin brother are in the same room as the mind-swap carpet, and the calendar in the disused room says 1982. I'm not fully agreeing with the theory btw, just trying to explain why people think it's true.
It honestly sounds like a theory people buy in to less because it seems possible and more because it would be even more of a twist then the others. Either way it doesn't seem like that is what happened.

I don't know what is there to speculate. They're both obviously done by the same guy, but other than that, they don't have much in common.
