The header says it's about ironic songs being used unironically. But most of the examples are about a meaningful song for a purpose that has no relation to this meaning. For example, 99 Luftballons or Space Oddity are hardly ironic songs. That they're used for a valentine or space shuttle show could be considered ironic, but the songs themselves are not ironic.
So either most of the examples are wrong, or the header and title of the page are wrong.
Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight!Clocking due to lack of activity.
Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.The third paragraph of the description is why examples like Space Oddity and 99 are fine.
A similar effect is when a song with an upbeat melody will be used as background music in upbeat scenes despite having very dark lyrics.

Ths page has many descriptions that assume the point. For example, it says the "YMCA" song is abot having sex at the YMCA, when the only lines where such a thing sounds like it's even remotely implied is "you can hang out with all the boys" and "you can do about what you feel". I suggest removing all examples that aren't properly justified.
