OK, heres the thing: If the movie is good, nobody except you is gonna give a shit.
And the person who wrote that article.
And the people that article is talking about.
And the people on Facebook reacting to it.
And anyone else. So no, I won't be the only one.

Definitely not. It's not that Disney is wrong for making an alternate version of Mike and Sully's past, it's that they figured that nobody would notice or care that makes them look bad. Just say it's a reboot, everyone's doing them!
Me, as long as the movie is good -and so far it looks like it will- am not complaining.
Yeah, 'cause people never, ever use hyperbole when they're joking around with their friends.
The last hurrah? Nah, I'd do it again. You did see Kyun's link didn't you? That didn't sound like a joke to me, but a direct statement. Also, reread my post, I said I don't *care* if the move is in continuity with the first or not, only that people who are bothered by Disney's attitude are entitled to be. If you're not, good for you, but it isn't stupid on their part.
Oh, I did not see that one.
... alt. universe, I guess?
The last hurrah? Nah, I'd do it again. The thing is, that line impacted NOTHING in the movie. Mike could have said "I'd look good if you covered me in petroleum jelly and rolled me in an anthill" and it would have had just as much relevance to the movie. That's why I'm baffled with people obsessing over that one line (and arguably non canon teaser).
'Oh My God, I thought we were done with this topic
Here, PROBLEMO SOLVED: It's canon AND consistent.

You are displaying abnormally high compulsions to over-analyze works of fiction and media. Diagnosis: TV Tropes Addiction. It's just that the trailers make it seem like they are meeting for the first time. If there's a "Hey didn't we go to school together once?" line in the film, why not include it? As for why people care, I don't see that many people bothered by it (though you know how some fans are, Serious Business can apply to anything.)
You know my one, REAL worry about the film? That while it will be as funny as the first, it may not be as touching. The first had the whole subplot with Boo. College hijinks do not compare. Which doesn't mean Monsters University will be a bad film, but you can't help comparing a sequel (or prequel) with the original.
...I'm getting Brave trailer controversy flashbacks now.

Speaking as a college student, I think this film definitely has potential for an emotional storyline, considering that the film seems to be more focused on Mike than Sulley.
If you notice from the japanese trailer, Mike from a very young age wants be be a Scarer, since first visiting Monsters Inc in grade school. That's his decided major in college as well as his primary motivation for coming to Monsters University. However, given what we know about Monsters Inc, it's extremely apparent that becoming a scarer is not what he becomes. If this film is going to have an emotional center it has to be Mike eventually coming to terms with his unfrightening abilities and giving up his life career of practicing and studying an dreaming of being a scarer in favor of helping train Sulley. As a fourth year college student who had his own life dreams of aspiration eventually trashed, I empathize completely with this. This is why I see the pair being inseparable in MI- Mike basically gives up on himself so he can start with Sulley and Sulley comes to terms with Mike's ability as a more intellectual trainer.

For some reason I don't remember seeing that. If that were the case, tell the guy who wrote that Mashables article!
Think that's more because people don't remember that line in the movie.
Also, because "they are meeting for the first time" sounds way better than "yeah, they met in grade school, this is their second meeting".
Not necessarily. In fact I think that having Mike dream about going to college so much only to find his roommate is the guy he couldn't stand in elementary school is much funnier. But as I said, no biggie for me.

And as usual for a story team who is Doing It for the Art, they named each background character! :D
And you've got everyone with a relatively normal sounding name, and then you've got...Art.
I've currently got a feeling like Art's going to be one of the breakout favorites from this movie.
Art is such a basic name, but a very real one. I know a real friend of mine named Art.
Why didn't they just name one of the Art Club members Art?? Being Pixar, you'd think that would be obvious.

But it's just "Art". Not anything like "Art Scartwoski" or "Art Finkleburg" or "Art Stevenson", just "Art".

For the longest time I thought Don Carlton was Squishy's father. Huh, guess I was wrong.
Also why does it say they only have four members, yet clearly six are shown?

Meh, it's a throw away line and won't influence my opinion of the movie. It's not like it was a plot point in the first one.
